Position Overview - In collaboration with the Section Head, works in developing competency assessment plan, tools and documents to meet regulatory requirements.
- Completes new employee, 6 month, and annual competency assessment for required staff on all shifts on both campus locations.
- Completes retraining and reassessment of competency when problems are identified with an individual's performance with oversight from section head.
- Assists with ensuring compliance with CAP, DNV, NJ State Dept. of Health and other regulatory agency standards.
- Participates in onsite and offsite C.A.P. inspections.
- Oversees and participates in required training for new employees, current employees and students on laboratory instrumentation and associated policies and procedures.
- Disseminates information and conducts training for policy and procedure updates as required.
- Attends offsite training by vendors for new instrumentation.
- Maintains and updates competency and training records using the Media Lab Compass module and other formats. Submits required documents with accuracy and in a timely manner.
- Demonstrates advanced level of expertise and maintains competency within current clinical lab analyzers and manual procedures in assigned section(s).
- Conducts and documents annual consistency of morphological observation in Body Fluids, Peripheral Blood, and Blood parasites preps. Assures that proper records are completed and filed appropriately.
- Works every 3rd weekend and holiday rotation to maintain competency.
- Assists section head in providing input for annual performance appraisals.
- Participates in developing updating and maintaining educational materials.
- Demonstrates effective teaching skills. Uses a variety of instructional methods and teaching strategies. Participates in the resolution of clinical issues requiring educational interventions.
Minimum Requirements - Education: Bachelor's degree in science related field. Bachelor's degree in medical laboratory sciences (MLS) preferred. HEW certification as a medical technologist acceptable in lieu of BS degree. American Society of Clinical Pathologist certificate (ASCP) preferred.
- Experience: Core Laboratory: Three years' experience working in an acute care hospital laboratory in the Chemistry, Hematology, Urinalysis and Coagulation sections of the lab. Blood Bank: Three years' experience working in an acute care hospital laboratory in blood bank and transfusion services. Microbiology: Three years' experience working in an acute care hospital laboratory. Experience in staff training and performing competency assessment for other staff.
- Other Credentials: ASCP or equivalent
- Knowledge and Skills: Demonstrates technical proficiency in operations with automated instrumentation and manual methodology in all required clinical disciplines. . Outstanding verbal, interpersonal and written communication skills. Experience teaching adults.
- Special Training: Power point, excel, word preferred.
- Mental, Behavioral and Emotional Abilities: Demonstrates ability to work cooperatively with individuals and teams to produce outcomes and cultivate a positive work environment.
