Responsibilities of a freight broker :
- Generating sales leads for the company
- Collecting and storing information relating to goods for the company
- Negotiating prices, preparing quotes and collecting payment for the services they complete
- Identifying, verifying and commissioning a carrier for hauling goods
- Tracking, managing and providing updates on the goods' journey to the shipper
- Managing and resolving exigencies that arise during the movement of goods
- Providing customer support to the carrier or the final customer who's receiving the goods
- Completing the delivery process
- Developing and managing relationships with carriers
- Creating shipping documents like the packing list and bill of lading (BOL)
- Sending the appropriate documents to the carrier on the shipper's behalf
