Job description

Overall Purpose of the Job:

The owner of the Service Delivery offering to V.Ships Customers, having full authority and accountability of decisions that ensure the Customer is provided with a full functioning ship and crew, thereby enabling top quality operational performance. To lead, motivate and coach the Fleet Cell team and the vessel crew thus ensuring Customer satisfaction. The Fleet Manager is one of the most important functions in our business and is accountable for, and has the authority to, take decisions that ensure his/her ships are operated to the highest standards, in compliance with legal and regulatory requirements and in accordance

with V.Ships VMS so ensuring flawless service delivery to customers.

Key Responsibilities and Tasks:

• Safety is our first priority and the Fleet Manager has the authority and the accountability for taking necessary decisions that ensure constant safe operation and that everybody comes home safe. The Fleet Manager is the authority ensuring safe operation and protecting the environment.

• Our Customers are our second priority after safety. The Fleet Manager is responsible for, and has the authority to, deliver full ship management service to the Customer. The Fleet Manager position is the link between the Customer and his/her ship and the responsible person for ensuring that the Customer fully benefits from the operational performance of his/her ship.

• Own the product delivered to V.Ships Customers, having the authority and accountability to take the necessary decisions to ensure Flawless Service Delivery. The owner of the relationship with his/her Customers and being the link between the Customer and his/her ship.

• Lead the Fleet Cell team and the leadership on board the ships to deliver Flawless Services to Customers by always ensuring that the team has the support and the skills necessary to keep the Customer's needs in focus while ensuring the highest standard of safety on board.

• Train, encourage, mentor and develop the fleet cell team and the leadership on board. Ensure that the necessary training and feedback is provided to grow his/her team ashore and on board.

• Always have the best interest for the Customer as the highest priority, being the face to the Customer ensuring that strong relationships are built by engaging with the Customers on a frequent basis and ensuring that the team does the same. Pro-actively identify and share continuous improvement opportunities in cooperation with the Customer and the team on board and ashore.

• By using all appropriate tools (Shipsure, CTD, CSP etc) and periodic meetings, monitor & ensure the Fleet Cell is working efficiently with no complaints from the Clients. Directly responsible for the Safety culture, morale and performance of the team on board and ashore.

• Ensure that any issues that affect, or may affect, the safety, environmental or operational performance of assigned vessels are reported in time and take the necessary decisions to protect the Customers interest.

• Manage Dry Dock, Vacation and other absence planning so that the Fleet Cell can operate efficiently and uninterrupted. Raise concerns if necessary to demand support from the whole organisation in the best interest of the Customer.

• Take responsibility to ensure all third party inspections (SIRE, CDI, PSC etc.) are passed with a minimum number of observations. Take the necessary precautions and/or arrange for the necessary support to ensure that all vessels stay operational and attractive. Never compromise safety and the environment. To ensure that each voyage is affected safely, efficiently and with the minimum impact on the environment.

• Ensure that the Fleet Cell and Vessels (along with Superintendents) are adequately and competently staffed with requisite experience. Ensure timely and appropriate support is provided to the Cell from other Internal Services. Immediately raise concern if there is a lack of support.

• Responsible for approving the Fleet Cell's annual Vessel Operating Budgets prior to submission to the client in accordance with their budget timetable. Ensure that the Customers are kept clearly updated on all operational and financial parameters and ensure that a 12 month rolling OPEX estimate is provided for each vessel each month. Work with the team on board and ashore to ensure that the Customer is fully up to date at all times.

• Take every opportunity, when liaising with customers, to promote V.Group services and proactively pitch for relevant business opportunities.

• To be an advocate of ShipSure and ensure it is properly utilised within the fleet cell. Support and assist colleagues where required and provide constructive feedback to aid continuous improvement of the system.

Required Experience:

• Recognised Maritime qualification and/or relevant experience at sea.

• With five (5) years' experience in a marine related company, preferably as Technical Superintendent or Vessel Manager

• Good communication (oral and written) skills

• Good interpersonal skills with the ability to engage, interact and lead people at all levels.

• Good planning and organisational skills,

• Ability to produce creative and effective solutions to problems,

• Committed to delivering a quality service, controlling costs/budgets and providing value for money
