About the role:

We are looking for a Staff/ Sr Staff Systems Functional Safety Engineer, who will be working closely with hardware, software, and systems engineering teams to deliver the next generation of lidar. Our ideal candidate is someone with strong knowledge of automotive functional safety (e.g ISO 26262) and who is creative and can think outside of the box to implement safety standards for our products and novel application.

This is a first set of lead hires for this function, as we look to augment this function in Luminar, Bangalore - India. You will be part of a high cross-functional team and responsible for rapid prototyping and product development at Luminar.

Key Responsibilities :

Work closely with HW engineering team to develop the design which fulfills Automotive Functional safety aspects Understanding HW technical details and define HW workflow and work products required by the ISO 26262 standard Perform Hardware architectural metrics (FMEDA) and PMHF Evaluation (FTA) Conducting safety analysis in HW level (such as DFMEA, pin FMEA and DFA) as per ISO 26262 guidelines Support Engineering team for the creation and refinement of Hardware Safety Requirements (HSR) Involve in internal and external Functional Safety Audits and Assessments Support for the creation and refinement of Hardware-Software Interface (HSI) Specification Perform Verification and Confirmation Reviews for the various safety related work products as per ISO 26262 Support System Safety activities (such as Item Definition, Safety Goal derivation, FSR, TSR, Safety plan, Safety Case etc) Involvement in verifying the Supplier Safety artifacts Should know the failure standards such as IEC TR 62380, SN29500 and Birolini Norms Design and documentation of safety mechanisms (Rationale for Diagnostic Coverage) Actively participate in product development, quality, and reliability conversations to ensure that functional safety is a key consideration during the entire product development cycle Collaborate closely with other cross-functional leaders (Product/System/Software) to develop and implement Functional safety Work with customers for system level integration and qualification to meet agreed safety requirements FPGA based development experience is an added advantage

Knowledge:

Familiarity with automotive, mechanical, optical and electrical system architectures Significant knowledge of systems engineering process, hardware, and software design process Proven track record of translating and interpreting requirements from concept stage to design and production Experience on both inductive and deductive safety analysis. Familiarity with common analysis techniques such as Failure Modes and Effect Analysis (FMEA) at different phases of product development such as CFMEA, PFMEA, DFMEA. Excellent analytical, written, and verbal communication skills and ability to work as part of a team.

Education and Experience Requirements:

BTech/MTech in an engineering discipline or relevant experience At least six years of relevant experience in Functional Safety Experience using Ansys Medini or similar safety analysis tools Well versed with safety requirement management in tools like Code Beamer, DOORS or contemporary tools Formulating and designing ASIL-B/C/D conforming systems Demonstrable working knowledge of functional safety development processes needed to meet the requirements of the ISO 26262 standard or adjacent market standards such as IEC 61508. Functional Safety Professional certification or similar is an added advantage Experience in System Safety / Software Safety is an added advantage Experience in Lidar/Radar/Camera is an added advantage
