Job Purpose
Lead Engineer I
Interprets, reviews and approves technical requirements and independently creates subsea equipment designs and procedures. Provides technical product support and guidance through project life cycle from tender phase through design, manufacture, assembly, test and installation.
Takes lead technical role for a work package in a project, tender or FEED study. Ensures that project meets specifications, standards and performance requirements within established budget and schedule. Leads a team of engineers, designers and drafters through project execution. Acts as technical focal point to the internal project team and external customer.
Job Description MAJOR RESPONSIBILITY AREAS:
Essential - Leads well & flow control engineering projects with focus on project safety, quality, schedule and budget.
- Reviews & interprets customer technical specifications and industry codes and propose functional & cost-effective solutions based on standard/fit-for-purpose offerings.
- Provides leadership and guidance to team of engineers, designers and drafters for assigned project.
- Works independently to establish design requirements, conceptualize, plan and execute technical deliverables.
- Responsible to ensure all engineering scope for assigned project meets customer requirements and is delivered on time.
- Works with project planner and project manager to plan, generate and maintain engineering schedule of assigned projects.
- Technical focal point for all communication with customer and internal project team.
- Collaborates closely with internal project team members to ensure successful project execution.
- Reviews and interprets customer technical specifications and industry codes.
- Reviews and approves engineering documents, including specifications, drawings, MEL (Master Equipment List), DBI (Data Base Information), ECN (Engineering Change Notice), design documents and procedures.
- Facilitates design reviews.
- Checks the work of drafters, designers and other engineers.
- Provides expert technical support to equipment manufacturing, fabrication, assembly, test and installation activities.
- Investigates non-conformances and provides technical disposition. Identifies root cause of any technical problems and proposes solutions to ensure corrective and preventive actions are implemented.
- Actively contributes to department discussions relating to technical issues, lessons learnt, organizational development etc.
- Assists with competency development of others through mentoring, coaching, training sessions etc.
- Ensures good personal time management and weekly time entry into SAP system.
- Provides input to and support improvements to processes or work instructions.
- Ensures that assignments conform to TechnipFMC Engineering Execution Plan, guidelines and specifications.
- Understand and comply with TechnipFMC HSE & Quality policies. Visibly show commitment to HSE & Quality through participation in safety and quality initiatives.
- Actively increases industry knowledge and awareness of new technologies through establishing contacts within the global organization and through wider industry publications, forums etc.

Scope Of Responsibilities - No direct budget responsibilities but expected to deliver engineering scope within assigned project budget.
- No direct reports but leads a team of engineers, designers and drafters to ensure successful project execution.
- Understand design requirements and execute design steps for projects in accordance to engineering execution process.
- Frequent contact and interface with internal organization (Engineers, Drafters, Planners, Quality, Project Managers, Manufacturing and Assembly & Test). Frequent contact with external customers.
You Are Meant For This Job If - BE/ B Tech in mechanical engineering with 8 to 15 years of Project Engineering experience, preferably in Subsea Christmas Trees/ Subsea Manifolds/ In-line Structures/ Termination heads/ Subsea Hydraulic Distribution Systems/ Wellheads/ Valves & Chokes/ Connections & Tie-in systems etc. with good awareness of overall subsea Production Systems.
- Exposure to ASME, API, NORSOK, and DNV Codes and Standards related to subsea equipment design and manufacturing will be an added advantage
- Competent in Engineering practices, design methods & calculations. Experience in reviewing & approving engineering designs, documents, layouts, calculations and interpreting FEA/ structural analysis results
- Understanding of various manufacturing processes - forging, hot and cold extrusion, cladding, HIP, induction bending etc.
- Ability to read, interpret & prepare applicable technical information & suggest design or process changes to ensure functional and cost-effective results.
- Must have the drive and initiative to independently communicate, gather information and make sound engineering decisions.
- Able to work independently and interface with multiple stakeholders in a fast-paced project environment.
- Outstanding communication and presentation skills.
- Good understanding of economic factors (schedule, cost, profit, impact of decisions) affecting the scope assigned.
- Demonstrates organizing and project planning skills. Manage schedule and prioritize work for self and others in the project engineering team assigned
- Demonstrated ability to lead and mentor a team.
- Fluent in written and spoken English. Strong in both verbal and written technical communication.
- Good PC skills (word processing, spreadsheet and presentation software).
WORK ENVIRONMENT : Spends most of the time in an office environment. Occasional trips to fabrication, testing or installation sites. May be exposed to site hazards including machining, welding, pressure testing, heavy material lifting and movement.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS :Spends 80% of time sitting and operating a computer or workstation. Spends 20% of time supporting shop, fabrication and test activities requiring lifting, pushing, walking and some climbing on ground and elevated heights.
