Job description

Overview:

The E-commerce Director is responsible and accountable for leading and executing the overall e-commerce strategy for the organization and the brand in India. This role involves overseeing all aspects of online sales, marketing, and operations to drive revenue growth, enhance customer experience, achieve business objectives, and ensure long term development of online sales.

The role holder is part of the India Management Team and works closely works with the Managing Director (MD) and other stakeholders in defining the e-commerce strategy and business development plan for the company in the online space which contributes 25% to the organization's sales revenue. This includes budget allocation, evolving and achieving Annual Business Plans, supervising, fine-tuning, and monitors the execution of the e-commerce sales strategy of the Company on various channels. The role works closely with the Marketing function to explore opportunities to improve our brands' image and market share on online marketplaces, in accordance with the companies' policies and strategies. Close Co-ordination with Supply Chain is required to ensure accurate sales forecasting.

It is the role's obligation to form an efficient and effective team that is perfectly cooperating with all internal and external partners. The E-Commerce Director is responsible for discussion and setting clear targets for a high performing team and ensure accurate and regular tracking of fulfillment at our various online portals.

Successful performance requires

Key Responsibilities:

1. Strategy Development:

a. Manage the P&L for the E Commerce Channel by delivering on short term and long term business plans

b. Develop and implement a comprehensive e-commerce strategy specifically designed for the Indian market, considering local consumer behaviors, preferences, and cultural nuances.

c. Identify market trends, opportunities, and challenges to inform strategic decision-making and drive growth in the Indian e-commerce landscape. Continue to seek avenues for growth in the online space to deliver superior business results.

d. Deliver Strategic Roadmap, Annual Business Plans- Volumes and Value, budget allocation, key customer management, headcount projections for the E-Commerce team for the Company.

e. Constantly challenge the internal and external status quo with new ideas, benchmarking competitive moves, initiatives, and processes to ensure the E-Commerce team is adequately supported. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align e-commerce initiatives with overall business objectives and regional priorities .

2. Designing and delivering online key account business objectives and coach a team of highly motivated and aspirational team to

a. Build strategic business partnerships with E Commerce chains to deliver business priorities

b. Develop and execute digital marketing campaigns to drive traffic, customer acquisition, and sales through various channels, including SEO, SEM, email marketing, social media, and affiliate programs.

c. Implement strategies to increase average order value, customer retention, and lifetime value.

d. Collaborate with the marketing team to create compelling content, promotions, and product offerings tailored to the e-commerce audience.

e. Design and increase the impact of the online marketing investment through continuous improvement by measuring, analyzing and interpreting campaign results and utilizing this information to improve return on investment for future campaigns.

f. Set up robust Review mechanisms to generate MIS to enable decision-making at HO level.

g. Analyze data available in various MIS to develop action plans for business development.

h. Understand the market realities and benchmark visibility, banners, promos with other FMCG companies

i. Drive top-to-top with channel partners to benefit the India E-Commerce business

j. Drive successful events on the large online marketplaces

3. Operations and Logistics:

a. Oversee order fulfillment, inventory management, shipping, and logistics to ensure timely delivery and customer satisfaction.

b. Optimize operational processes to improve efficiency, reduce costs, and minimize errors.

c. Establish partnerships with third-party vendors and service providers to support e-commerce operations as needed

4. Performance Marketing, Analytics and Reporting:

a. Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) related to e-commerce sales, marketing, and operations.

b. Analyze data to identify trends, insights, and opportunities for optimization.

c. Prepare regular reports and presentations to communicate e-commerce performance and recommendations to senior management and regional / global stakeholders

d. Continuously review the impact of the Performance Marketing initiatives on online channel partners, and optimize wherever necessary

5. Team Leadership:

a. Recruit, train, and mentor a high-performing e-commerce team.

b. Provide guidance, support, and feedback to team members to foster professional growth and development.

c. Foster a collaborative and innovative work environment that encourages teamwork, creativity, and accountability.

d. Coach and mentor upcoming talent, to ensure robust succession planning for all E-Commerce roles

6. Other cross functional partnership

a. Proactive partnership with marketing team to ensure alignment of strategy and subsequent successful implementation of the defined strategy for the online market-places.

b. Proactive partnership with Supply Chain team to efficiently drive forecast accuracy, cost of sales, availability, customer service, working capital, etc.

c. Proactive partnership with Finance team to drive sales in an ethical manner with solid hygiene and make decisions in collaboration with Finance Director on matters impacting net sales, EBIT, Terms of Trade, Margins, Working Capital, Channel Profitability, etc.

7. Qualifications:

a. Master's degree in business, marketing, e-commerce, or related field from a premier business school

b. Proven experience in e-commerce management, preferably in a leadership role.

c. Strong understanding of e-commerce platforms, technologies, and best practices.

d. Should have working knowledge of offline sales in either Modern Trade or General Trade

e. Excellent analytical, strategic planning, and problem-solving skills.

f. Proficiency in web analytics tools, CRM systems, and e-commerce software.

g. Effective communication, leadership, and project management skills.

h. Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and adapt to changing priorities.

i. Deep knowledge of industry trends, competitive landscape, and customer behavior in the e-commerce space.

j. The E-commerce Director plays a critical role in driving the success of the organization's online business and requires a strategic thinker with a passion for innovation, customer experience, and results-driven leadership.

k. 15 Years of experience. FMCG / E-Commerce marketplace experience preferred

Organization:

The E-Commerce Director reports to the Managing Director. They lead a team of 15 employees including the E-Commerce Shopper Customer Marketing Team and Senior and Junior National Key Account Managers.
