Job description

Summary: This is a Project Head position responsible for the implementation of WTI’s projects in the state of Uttar Pradesh, namely Terai Tiger Project (a Conflict Mitigation Project) and Strengthening cross border wildlife crime enforcement along India-Nepal border (a Wildlife Crime Control Project). The head shall lead the two teams and ensure the delivery of all of the projects’ outcomes and outputs, as framed in the respective Project Implementation Plans (PIP) of the projects.  Additionally, the Project Head shall also be responsible for liaising with the State’s Forest Department and other agencies to ensure smooth functioning of the projects. The Project Head shall report to the Division Heads of the Conflict Mitigation Division and Wildlife Control Division for the respective projects.

Main Responsibilities:

 

1. Be the technical lead for the two WTI projects i.e Terai Tiger and Strengthening cross border wildlife crime enforcement along India-Nepal border, and ensure high quality delivery of projects’ outputs and outcomes.

2. Delegate work to respective team members as per the PIPs, and also motivate and guide them to undertake their work efficiently and in good spirit.

3. Compilation of all the projects work in the form of monthly/quarterly/annual reports (in prescribed formats, if present) and submission of these to respective division heads.

4. Conducting of monthly and quarterly reviews of the two projects (in prescribed formats) and submission of the same to HQ in a timely manner.

5.Manage team members’ day-to-day functioning and any issues arising therein, besides other HR issues within the team

6.Shall be WTI’s primary point of contact for the State Forest Department and shall be responsible for periodic appraisal meetings.

7.Ensure all field camps/stations within the ambit of the projects are well maintained and equipped to allow smooth project functioning.

8.Shall liaise with other relevant project stakeholders (local communities, targeted government agencies, local organizations, etc.) to enable smooth functioning of the project.

 

Other Notable responsibilities (Project Management. Financial and Administrative)

 

1.Shall be responsible for the optimum performance of the projects and delivery of projects’ impact, outcomes and outputs (proposals, activity/donor reports), in consultation and coordination with respective Division Heads (DH) and Principal Investigators (PI)

2.Shall lead and manage the project teams of the specified projects, including delegation of tasks, assessing accountability, granting leave of absence, issuing cashflows,  conducting Performance Management Reviews (PMR), etc. for the entire team, in consultation with DH and PI.

3.Shall be the budget manager of all assigned project as per the set plans (PIPs) and ensure all financial compliances are met, in consultation with the DH and PI.

4.Shall liaise with senior officers of all relevant government agencies in the region to facilitate in the smooth running (Technically and Financially) of projects of WTI. Shall also keep the government and other conservation agencies informed of WTI work.

5. Participate in planning meetings and provide inputs into the development of PIPs and proposals for fundraising.

6. Responsible for forging partnerships and associations at regional level with Government departments, NGOs, and institutions in consultation with DH. Shall also determine regional conservation priorities of the region and align them into WTIs conservation agenda

7.Shall be responsible for conducting monthly/quarterly meetings of project staff within the region and report on the project progress to HQ team, as per the date defined by the HQ team.

8.Maintain datasets obtained from the field, analyze them and ensure they are submitted to HQ at the earliest (in prescribed formats, if any)

9. Shall take lead in developing new proposals within their regions and sustenance of existing projects in consultation with the DH, Head of Conservation (HoC) and PI or any person deemed fit by ED.

10.Develop manuscripts for scientific and popular articles related to projects under vertical.

11.Function as a quality control manager by constantly reviewing and updating the project team skill-set required for delivering the project outcomes and outputs in consultation with DH and PI

12.Motivate teams to give quality results by promoting activities that encourage team building.

13.Ensure that field stations are maintained to meet the project needs, as per the norms of the organization.

14.Responsible for ensuring the respective projects in the field comply the requirement of the various statutory laws of the government, both state and central.

15.Shall take lead in implementing and monitoring all breadth projects of WTI falling within the region

16.Shall represent WTI in all local (regional conservation events), national and international fora and take lead in presenting project findings and achievements
