The/Nudge Institute works with government, markets and civil society to build resilient livelihoods for all. Under the Centre of Rural Development, one of the core themes for The/Nudge Institute, the core mandate is to serve the landless, small and marginal farming households, living in extreme poverty by helping them to build sustainable livelihoods.

The/Nudge Institute is working with UPSRLM -PRERNA to provide technical input and strategic support for the promotion of rural livelihoods centred around small livestock management, focused on Backyard Poultry and Goatery.

Position Summary

The Market Linkage Consultant will lead interventions on identifying and securing access to remunerative markets for the poultry producers, developing the value chain ( Logistics Management ) and the institutional arrangements required for sustainable access to remunerative and high-value markets contributing to an increase in income through Backyard poultry (BYP) intervention. The position will also be responsible for the use of digital platforms to facilitate access to remunerative markets. The position will support the other districts working in close collaboration with UPSRLM (PRERNA) under the Asha Kiran project. This position is totally result oriented and required to market ready birds and eggs on time in the market.

Key Responsibilities

  • Analyse current BYP marketing trends in terms of volume of birds sold, volume of eggs sold , volume of eggs consumed (increase in nutrition value), avg. price realised across seasonality fluctuations, income generated per HH , No. of HHs covered under Market Linkage , Clusters having higher income and associated reasons , month-on-month fluctuations in sales volume and realised avg. price.
  • Forecast meat and egg availability in a cluster that is ready for market linkage activity in the forthcoming months based on the induction calendar. Plan for sales process based on trends analysed with an aim to generate maximum income for HHs .
  • Carry out sales campaigns and explore trade marketing possibilities with potential consumers/buyers.
  • Explore the market potential and consumer demand at the cluster, village, block, district and state level.
  • Through regular field visits, map existing markets and assess the potential for buyers/producers to access these markets directly.
  • Establish robust communication channels for the timely sale of ready birds and eggs.
  • Ensure availability of Market Feed to HHs at the best possible rates.
  • Coordinate with the Hatchery for procurement of chicks and negotiate accordingly to procure at the best possible market rates.
  • Submit a monthly report of activities undertaken, adequately detailing challenges faced and corrective action taken, and also submit a plan for the forthcoming month.
  • Carry out any other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned by the organization from time to time.

Qualifications And Skills Required

  • Graduate/Post-graduate qualifications in any discipline from a recognised institute.
  • Minimum 3 years of work experience in sales/marketing of products.
  • Experience in marketing/sale of Agri and allied produce is desirable.
  • Experience in sales/marketing of poultry produce is an added advantage.
  • Exposure to developing or working on a digital marketing platform will be an advantage.
  • Good understanding of farm value chains and value addition and a willingness to learn and innovate. Must share an urgency about development and a commitment for the delivery of a high-quality programme in a time-bound manner.
  • Proficient with MS Office, especially in MS Excel and/or Database Management.
  • Ability to multitask and work in collaboration with multiple stakeholders, both internal and external
  • Willingness to travel extensively in the desired blocks/field areas comes under the project district.
