Mechanical Design Engineer/Sr Design

General Purpose of Role:
Responsible for the mechanical design of a wide range of heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) products used in both on and off highway applications and also providing technical support to other company departments.

Reporting to:-

Engineering Head

Main Responsibilities:

1. New Products:
2. Creation of conceptual designs to suit customer requirements.
3. Assisting in the preparation of commercial quotations for the concepts.
4. Developing the concept through to final design intent.
5. Liasing with customers engineering representative.
6. Detailing the final design intent for manufacturing.
7. Compiling detailed Bills of Materials for the final design.
8. Participating in Design and Process FMEA'S.
9. Organising and over-seeing the build of the prototype system.
10. Over-seeing the installation of the system into the machine or cab.
11. Participating in the testing of the prototype system.
12. Preparation of all the information that is required for introducing the system into production.
13. Deliver designs that are below cost targets with zero PPM product quality and with zero Customer complaints.
14. Existing products:
15. Partcipating in Cross Functional Cost Reduction Team.
16. Conduct reviews on existing products in order to reduce manufacturing and / or material costs.
17. Conduct reviews on existing products with a view to improving the performance.
18. Conduct Engineering Changes to existing products.
19. Continuous Improvement Initiatives:

20. Participation as an individual or team member in continuous improvement initiatives in all areas and functions of the company.

Person Specification

Specific Qualifications:-

• Design Engineers with qualification in B.E/B Tech (Mechanical) Engineering

Previous Work Experience:-

1. Experience of working within an automotive industry is desirable.
2. >5 years experience working within a design environment
3. Experience of Mobile Air Conditioning for the automotive or off highway industries is a desirable

4. Experience in injection moulding design and/or light sheet metal fabrications

Specific Knowledge / Skills Competence:

1. Use of the Creo or CATA 3D Cad package
2. Knowledge of the PTC Windchill PLM system would be beneficial
3. Ability to understand/produce technical drawings
4. Change management processes (PCN ECN etc…)
5. Communication skills in all forms including written, oral, email, telephone, and presentations
6. Excellent computer skills and competent in developing and using a PC and associated networks and systems to acquire, manipulate and disseminate information
7. Proficient with the Microsoft Office suite of software
8. Knowledge of HVAC systems and Components is a distinct advantage but not essential.
