Hybrid Working

Structured hybrid role:    
At Barclays, we offer a hybrid working experience that blends the positives of working alongside colleagues at our onsite locations, together with working from home.  We have a structured approach where colleagues work at an onsite location on fixed, ‘anchor’, days of the week, for a minimum of two days a week or more, as set by the business area (or nearest equivalent if working part-time hours). Please discuss the working pattern requirements for the role you are applying for with the hiring manager. Please note that as we continue to embed our hybrid working environment, we remain in a test and learn phase, which means that working arrangements may be subject to change on reasonable notice to ensure we meet the needs of our business.


Introduction:

To support the VP Solution Architect in solutionizing/end-to-end design activities for projects across the end-to-end software development lifecycle within Trade & Working Capital Technology as well working independently on these (approx. 60-70% of role).

To support the Head of Engineering, Development and Test in defining and executing the strategy and roadmap for Trade & Working Capital Technology (approx. 30-40% of role).


What will you be doing?

•    Project engagement: Review new demand, decide whether Concept Solution will be needed, document solution online sufficiently for Lean Control Tool (LCT) Engagement Questionnaire.
•    Analysis and Design Deliverables: Produce Concept Solution, support requirements analysis – consult with Business Analysts to help define Functional Requirements and Non-Functional Requirements, create E2E Design / High Level Design / Architectural Vision as required, ensure solutions in align to standards and strategy, setup and support feasibility studies or Proof of Concepts.
•    General governance: CTAC preparation and presentation, consult with lead designers on product when E2E Design / High Level Design / Architectural Vision are not required, assist in Implementation and handover support to RtB.
•    Lean Control specific: Draft Engagement Questionnaire (support product owner), create product vision, support resolution of and provide updates to user stories raised by Architect control tribe.
•    Tech debt: Record technical debt, measure and remediate tech debt.
•    Standards and policies: Ensure understanding of architecture standards and policies within E&D teams.
•    Project Support: Technical and authoritative consultancy to the wider project team, sign off detailed designs from component teams and test strategy and scenarios, overviews for component teams as required, migration designs – software/data/hardware/scheduling – not detail of component/minute details, Interface discovery and impact of affected systems as part of project, Project support / Input into project plans / Risks / Cost analysis / Agile member, Accessibility assessment, New FMEA production
•    Production support: FMEA refreshes/reviews with RtB, support RtB colleagues in resolution of high severity incidents.
•    Application-level architecture, roadmaps and standards: Application specific roadmaps – not product selection but does include software versions, patches, infrastructure platform selection (AWS etc.), CMDB asset management (application inventory etc.), ACA (RtB with BtB input), platform specific standards and design patterns, cloud designs.
•    Ad hoc application impact assessments: Platform impact assessments, BICEP remediation and impact assessments, Trusted Data Source assessments, support for CIO-driven initiatives re environments etc.

What we’re looking for:

•    Experienced in acting as the design authority for a project.
•    Able to estimate budgets for medium and large projects.
•    Can identify high-impact, sensitive situations or issues and escalate appropriately.
•    Ensures governance, risk and control procedures are followed.
•    Ownership of end-to-end technical and application architecture for allocated projects, identifying and engaging all technical component teams that need to contribute. 
•    Ensuring project designs are compliant to architectures and standards by:
o    Producing required governance artefacts as dictated by the TSBIA rating assigned to the project
o    Presenting large project designs at the appropriate Design Authority.
o    Working with the Lead CTO Architect in Operations to evolve the architectures and standards, ensuring their effectiveness alongside advancing business, security and technology landscapes.
•    Under the guidance of the Lead Architect, developing elements of the technical strategy, roadmaps and vision for the Operations domain that align to Board approved Purpose, Values, Risk Appetite and Policies and are consistent with wider BC&I and Barclays Group standards.


Skills that will help you in the role:
•    Experienced technical Solution Architect.
•    Understanding of Domain Driven Design
•    Experience in creating technical documents such E2E Design / High Level Design / Architectural Vision.
•    Understanding security aspects of Enterprise applications
•    Strong experience in relevant technologies (Java/.Net/Mainframe/DB2/MSSQL).
•    Experience in application integration technologies (MQ, C:D, APIs).
•    Understanding of application infrastructure both on premises, external, and Public Cloud (AWS, Azure), SaaS platforms.
•    Understanding fundamentals of containerization including SDLC pipelines and runtime
•    Exposure to Project Management both Agile and Waterfall.
•    Able to demonstrate previous evidence of drive, energy, commitment, and enthusiasm.
•    Preferable earlier experience in coding with engineering background


•    Understanding of Banking and Financial Services Industry.
•    Understanding of Trade and Working Capital domain.
•    Professional certifications e.g. TOGAF, Cloud certifications.
