Responsibilities:

  1. Strategic Planning: Collaborate with executive leadership to develop and implement a strategic vision for the data department aligned with the overall goals and objectives of the organization.
  2. Team Leadership: Lead and manage a team of data analysts, scientists, engineers, and other professionals. Provide guidance, mentorship, and support to foster a collaborative and high-performing team.
  3. Project Management: Oversee data projects from conception to completion, ensuring that they are delivered on time, within scope, and meet quality standards. Coordinate with cross-functional teams as needed.
  4. Data Governance: Develop and implement data governance policies and procedures to ensure the quality, integrity, and security of data across the organization. Define data standards, classifications, and access controls.
  5. Technology Stack Management: Evaluate, select, and manage the tools, technologies, and infrastructure used within the data department. Stay informed about emerging trends and technologies in data management.
  6. Data Architecture: Define and maintain the data architecture, including database design, data storage, and data integration strategies. Ensure scalability, efficiency, and flexibility of the data infrastructure.
  7. Collaboration with Stakeholders: Work closely with business leaders, department heads, and other stakeholders to understand their data needs and provide data-driven insights that support decision-making.
  8. Budget Management: Develop and manage the budget for the data department, including resource allocation, technology investments, and other related expenses.
  9. Data Security and Compliance: Implement and enforce data security measures to protect sensitive information. Ensure compliance with relevant data protection and privacy regulations.
  10. Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities for process optimization, efficiency improvements, and innovation within the data department. Foster a culture of continuous learning and development.
  11. Communication Skills: Effectively communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders. Provide regular updates and reports on the progress of data initiatives.
  12. Risk Management: Identify and mitigate risks associated with data management, including data quality issues, security vulnerabilities, and compliance challenges.
  13. Vendor Management: Evaluate and manage relationships with external vendors, consultants, and service providers related to data technologies and services.
  14. Performance Metrics: Define and track key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure the effectiveness and impact of data initiatives on the organization's overall performance.

Qualifications

What we are looking for:

BA/BS degree in Computer Science/Information Technology or related discipline or equivalent combined education and experience, plus significant information systems/technology experience in a data intensive operational and compliance environment.  Technical expertise, technical writing ability, and proficiency in Systems Development Lifecycle (SDLC) principles. Must be comfortable with new technologies such as data architecture, data modeling and data management across relational and Big Data like SQL Server, Oracle, Spark, Python, Shell scripting across on premise and cloud like Azure, AWS and Salesforce (or Veeva) environments. Ability to handle multiple tasks to meet deadlines in a dynamic environment is essential. Process-oriented design, strong client service, leadership, and project management skills are essential. Background in commercial pharmaceutical, biotech development, or health care industry preferred. Highly effective presentation, documentation, interpersonal, and leadership skills with a team-oriented approach are necessary. Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks in a dynamic environment is essential.
