Job description

Mastering Scrum is what is expected of a Scrum Master (thus the name ). However the job is so diverse that one might never manage this - The journey is important, not so much the destination.

Mastering Scrum is not something that anyone is able to do after a 2 day training - it is a journey with the goal of creating a better environment for the people to work within, to create products that are more valuable for our users.

As a Scrum Master I think it s important to always keep learning. This will be part of your job as you have to understand things yourself before you can help others understand them .

Scrum Masters are leaders, not because they have authority, but because they lead by example, model behaviors and embody the Scrum Values. Others follow them voluntarily. Living the the core ideas of empiricism, frequently inspecting and adapting and experiment with things that will fail more often than not is important - there is no 'best practice', copy/paste solutions will not work but we have to find our own ways. Every organization, every product, every team is different. Not everything will be within our comfort zone, but we must leave it in order to learn & grow.

It is important to self-reflect, you might learn more about yourself than about any other thing once you embark on the journey to master Scrum.

Job Description

• Help everyone (within the team and outside) to understand Scrum (and other practices, Frameworks etc) and Agile Software Development & The Scrum Master is accountable for the Scrum Team s effectiveness. They do this by enabling the Scrum Team to improve its practices
• Serving the Team by
  • Coaching the team members in self-management and cross-functionality
  • Helping the Scrum Team focus on creating high-value Increments that meet the Definition of Done
  • Causing the removal of impediments to the Scrum Team s progress; and
  • Ensuring that all Scrum events take place and are positive, productive, and kept within the timebox
• Serving the PO by
  • Helping find techniques for effective Product Goal definition and Product Backlog management;
  • Helping the Scrum Team understand the need for clear and concise Product Backlog items;
  • Helping establish empirical product planning for a complex environment; and,
  • Facilitating stakeholder collaboration as requested or needed.
• Helping the overall organization
  • by teaming up with other Scrum Masters to work on issues that are 'outside of the team'
  • to exchange ideas/practices that might be valuable for others etc.
