Job description
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Functional Safety Engineer preferably with expertise in the Oil
and Gas or Marine industry. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in ensuring the safety and
reliability of our innovative robotic systems designed for challenging environments. As a Functional Safety
Engineer you will be responsible for developing implementing and maintaining functional safety processes
and standards throughout the project lifecycle conducting meticulous assessments and collaborating with
crossfunctional teams to integrate safety measures into various phases of product development.
Primary Responsibilities:
Functional Safety Analysis:
- Conduct hazard and risk assessments for robotic systems in the Oil and Gas or Marine industry.
- Perform Safety Integrity Level (SIL) determination and verification.
- Develop and review safety requirements specifications.
Safety Standards Compliance:
- Ensure compliance with relevant industry standards such as IEC 61508 IEC 61511 ISO 13849 and other applicable regulations.
- Stay updated on the latest safety standards and integrate them into the design and development process.
Safety Lifecycle Management:
- Implement and manage the safety lifecycle according to the project requirements.
- Work closely with crossfunctional teams to integrate safety practices into all project phases.
Fault Tree Analysis and Reliability Studies:
- Conduct Fault Tree Analysis (FTA) and other reliability studies to identify potential failure modes and assess system reliability.
- Develop and implement strategies to mitigate identified risks.
Documentation and Reporting:
- Generate safety documentation including safety plans safety cases and functional safety assessments.
- Provide regular status reports to project stakeholders on functional safety activities.
Collaboration:
- Collaborate with project managers engineers and other stakeholders to ensure a holistic approach to functional safety.
- Participate in design reviews and safety audits.
Training and Awareness:
- Provide training sessions to project teams on functional safety principles and best practices.
- Foster a safetyconscious culture within the organization.
Duties Include:
- Ensuring compliance with IEC/ISO published standards.
- Conducting functional safety assessments.
- Delivering FMEA functional safety analysis.
- Developing and implementing safety protocols.
- Collaborating with design teams for safety integration.
- Identifying safetycritical functions within projects.
- Responding to technical sales inquiries.
Basic Qualification: Degree in Electrical / Electronics / Controls / Mechanical or equivalent
Experience: Minimum of 2 years handson experience in electrical/electronics/controls/mechanical engineering with a dedicated focus on safety standards within this domain
Good to have skills:
- Bachelors degree in Engineering preferably in Electrical Control or Mechanical Engineering.
- Proven experience as a Functional Safety Engineer.
- Experience in the Oil and Gas or Marine industry is a plus.
- Indepth knowledge of safety standards and regulations relevant to robotic systems.
- Familiarity with safety analysis tools and methodologies.
- Strong analytical and problemsolving skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Certification in Functional Safety (e.g. T V Functional Safety Engineer) is a plus.
Added Advantage: Familiarity with industry specific standards and regulations related to the oil and gas sector and or
Marine Robotics.
