About the job
The Director for Cloud SQL Control plane will lead the engineering organization for all aspects of Cloud SQL management planes, including billing, and user-facing APIs. You will lead cross-organizationally and cross-globally and be responsible for building and operating business or function. As part of this role, you will define strategy, develop a joint roadmap, and operate a service at scale.
As an Engineering Director, you will be responsible for product strategy, determining and driving project goals, and developing a team. Software Engineering teams work across the company, in areas such as data storage, databases, information retrieval, artificial intelligence, natural language processing, distributed computing, large-scale system design, networking, security, data compression, user interface design. You will manage engineering leaders across multiple teams and locations, and lead and grow the team.

Responsibilities
- Hire and build database engineering teams including senior technical leadership to drive and execute on Google's global database charter.
- Define culture, hiring, growth, and development of engineers.
- Deliver Google Cloud database products, establish and manage project goals, contribute to product strategy, drive architecture decisions, and design solutions to resolve challenging problems for customers.
- Provide technical leadership to the engineering team, be a partner for cross-functional teams including Site Reliability Engineering, Product Management, Go-to-market, and other partner teams to deliver product offering.
- Manage a software engineering team that builds, designs, implements, and maintains front-ends and back-ends for Google's PaaS/IaaS products and related services.
