Job description

• A Senior Cloud and Virtualization Architect is an experienced and accomplished Azure hybrid cloud and VMware virtualization expert contributing to a dynamic, infrastructure design team making a difference
• The position s primary technology focus is modernizing onsemi s traditional on-premises vSphere virtualization and growing Dell Azure Stack HCI hybrid cloud footprint
• The Senior Cloud and Virtualization Architect core objectives include designing and executing on architectural directives while ensuring 24x7x365 infrastructure availability for an energy efficient, global semiconductor company
• The role requires versatility along with initiative
• The ideal candidate will have extensive infrastructure design/engineering expertise, know how to think outside-the-box and will share in responsibilities designing, implementing, enhancing, and supporting the provisioning, configuration and management of hybrid cloud infrastructure
• The Senior Cloud and Virtualization Architect will work closely with other architects, infrastructure team members, application developers, and business stakeholders
• Adhering to industry best practices to support onsemi s business objectives and user community experience is of utmost importance

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Engineers, implements, and supports hybrid cloud infrastructure solutions (data center, compute, networking, storage, systems hardware, distributed systems management, disaster recovery, security)
• Upgrades and consolidates global, on-premises vSphere environments
• Manages and administers the Azure cloud environment, including provisioning, configuration, performance monitoring, policy governance and security
• Designs, develops, and implements highly available, multi-region solutions within Azure
• Analyzes existing operational standards, processes, and/or governance to identify and implement improvements
• Migrates existing infrastructure services to cloud-based solutions
• Monitoring, performance tuning, and resource optimization
• Develops and implements policy driven data protection best practices to ensure hybrid cloud solutions are protected from data loss
• Executes efficient life cycle management methodologies of network, storage and compute virtual infrastructure with an automation only mindset
• Ability to analyze business problems and define technical solutions, with ROI and TCO analysis
• Technical leadership experience with information systems design, implementation, and operations in major projects
• Creates and maintains architectural diagrams and documentation
• Solid track record with hybrid cloud solutions (automation and orchestration, cloud management, cloud native apps)
• Leads focused activities to improve availability and efficiency for critical onsemi systems
• Experience generating useful report metrics and analytics on the health of virtual and hybrid cloud platforms
• Ensures compliance with onsemi and IT general controls and policies
• Mentors and assists global VMware and Azure cloud operations teams

REQUIREMENTS

Years of experience: Minimum of 10 years experience in VMware infrastructure design and engineering; minimum 2 years experience in Azure Cloud

Education: Bachelors or Masters degree (or equivalent work experience) from a regionally accredited institution in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Systems, Information Sciences, Information Technology, or Software Engineering

Certification At least one, preferably two or more of the following certifications: VMware VCP, VCAP; Microsoft MSCE, Microsoft Azure Administrator; Red Hat RHCSA, RHCE, RHCA

Communication: Fluent English (written and verbal)

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE**

• 15+ years progressive IT experience
• 10+ years vSphere vCenter enterprise administration experience with at least 100 hosts and 2,000 virtual machines
• Extensive vSphere vCenter deployment, migration, upgrade, and consolidation experience
• Expert level vSphere vCenter troubleshooting and resolution
• 2+ years with IaaS and PaaS solutions
• 2+ years Azure public cloud including Azure Arc and Azure VMs
• 2+ years Azure Stack HCI deployment and management experience
• Proven virtual machine performance optimization
• Passionate about cloud computing technologies, understanding business drivers, and emerging trends
• Advanced proficiency (7+ years) with Linux and/or Windows administration/engineering in an enterprise environment
• Proficiency with Microsoft Active Directory
• Strong knowledge of and use with storage protocols including iSCSI, Fibre Channel, and NFS in conjunction with datastores
• vSphere/vCenter SSL certificate implementation and management experience in an enterprise environment
• Zero trust security focused
• 2+ years with disaster recovery implementation and management
• 4+ years infrastructure automation using Ansible, Terraform, PowerShell, Puppet, Chef, or other similar languages
• Strong understanding of systems architecture from the application through infrastructure stack
• Effective communicator of complex virtualization/hybrid cloud concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences
• Extremely self-motivated and directed with a keen attention to detail and willingness to assume responsibility
• Flexibility to adapt and adjust until the business objectives are accomplished
• Excellent problem solving and decision-making skills

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE**

• 2+ years with vSAN
• 2+ years with Dell VxRail HCI
• 2+ years Terraform Cloud and Azure DevOps
• 2+ years with Azure Backup, Azure AKS, Azure databases, Azure Site Recovery, Azure Archive Storage
• 2+ years cloud hosted disaster recovery
• 2+ years developing infrastructure as code (IaC) leveraging cloud native tooling to ensure automated and consistent platform deployments.
• Familiarity with agile project management techniques
