Department Description
The Product & Market Research function is part of the Global Product team and is responsible for conducting market and competitor analysis on the asset management industry which is utilised across Fidelity International.
The Product & Market Research team forms an integral part of the Product Team and is called upon at all stages of the product lifecycle. Evidence based analysis helps generate action-orientated recommendations for Product Teams, Investment Management and Distribution.
The team currently consists of team members based in the UK and India. This role is a replamecement hiring which is required to support the existing large volumes of workflow and the growing remit of the team.
The team works with various parts of the organisation including Sales, Marketing, Product development, Senior Management, and Investment/Product Management to:
- Provide analysis which will help sales teams displace or complement competitor funds in client portfolios
- Provide market insight which feeds into all parts of the product lifecycle
- Create fund positioning stories for marketing/sales and investment directors to help raise assets
- Provide competitor analysis for the investment team to help understand and position funds against peers
Purpose of the Role
To support the product team in aligning our range and product development efforts with client demand and to support the investment and distribution functions across Fidelity in raising and defending assets by helping to position Fidelity funds in client portfolios. The role mainly involves analysing equity, fixed income and multi-asset funds and providing adhoc support to investment and sales teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Regular Reports: Maintain the current suite of reports that act as a first port of call for competitor analysis and are used across the business (quarterly competitor baseline slides, competitor QFR and QSR pages, local competitor matrices, industry trend analysis and various reports for Product), Fund Flow reports
- Competitor Displacement Analysis: Conduct detailed analysis on industry trends and fund specific analysis such as holdings and returns based assessment of Fidelity funds vs. competitor funds using a range of proprietary and third-party tools (i.e. Morningstar, Broadridge, eVestment, Mercer, Preqin). Deliver findings in PowerPoint or Excel for retail and institutional channels
- Industry Analysis: Analyse and communicate Fidelity's market share and fund flows vs. Competitors
- Provide support to the Product and Market Research team members based in London and Hong Kong
- Automate reports and develop self service tools for sales/marketing teams
Experience and Qualifications Required
- Masters Degree - economics/business/finance
- CFA qualification would be advantageous
- 2-5 years relevant experience in fund analysis/investment/research related role
- Experience in Fixed Income Research / Fixed Income Fund Analysis and/or experience in Equity Fund Analysis / Equity Research
Essential Skills
- Need to have experience in Fixed Income Mututal Fund analysis or Fixed Income Research
- Need to have experience in Equity Mutual Fund Analysis or Equity Research
- Experience in using analytical tools and datasets such as Morningstar Direct, Broadridge and eVestment desirable
- Can demonstrate knowledge of the competitive landscape and distribution dynamics gained through existing experience in the mutual fund industry
- Understanding of key portfolio analysis metrics/tools used in asset management, and demonstrate the ability to interpret and translate them into key product positioning points
- Ability to question data intelligently and build analysis from drawing together large datasets from multiple sources
- Excellent problem-solving skills
- Strong Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint skills. Any experience of VBA/Macro programming, PowerBI, and SQL also desirable
- The variety of the role calls for individuals who are self-starters who can prioritise and multi-task
- Strong analytical skills with good interpersonal, communication and networking skills
