Job description
You will be responsible for providing fundamental regional market analysis and will play a key part in further developing our regional oil balance team. Your main role will be integrating detailed crude oil and products supply and demand data, tracking regional trade flows, price formation and following key oil market, geopolitical, and economic developments.
To succeed in this role, you should be equipped with the quantitative skills to structure your research in a way that allows you to keep pace with the rapidly changing market conditions and provide timely insights on potential changes in the market and the impact these will have on regional market imbalances.
The foundation of our research products is a high volume of factual data, combined with sophisticated in-house data management systems and forecasting tools, to model physical relationships and market mechanisms governing the oil market and other global energy systems.
The position will be located at our Asian main office in Bangalore, but flexibility to accommodate different locations will be considered for exceptional candidates.
Tasks
- Monitor and analyze short-term regional crude oil and oil products market developments
- Perform fundamental analysis, including supply, demand, trade flows, and inventories for regional crude oil and refined products
- Derive regional balances for crude and refined products
- Identify market signals emerging from the resulting regional (im-)balances
- Contribute insights in our general research, product development, and client-facing activities.
- Present Rystad research at conferences, webinars, and other public settings
- Write and produce market notes and reports alongside our senior team members, both internal and external
- Become a regional in-house oil market expert
Experience and skills
We are looking for motivated candidates with a strong academic track record, an analytical mindset, and quantitative skills to strengthen our regional oil market balances team.
- University degree (Masters or Bachelors) within Engineering, Economics, Finance, Mathematics, Statistics, Physics or similar is required
- Demonstrated knowledge of the oil market
- Strong quantitative and problem-solving skills
- Experience with price-, data-, and market information providers such as Bloomberg, Refinitiv/Eikon, SP Global (formerly Platts) or Argus is a plus
- Knowledge of database design, SQL and Python (or similar) is a plus
- Comprehensive attention to detail in composing a complete and representative picture of the commodities market
- Proactive, independent, open-minded, and creative

- Great communication skills (English), both verbally and in written form
- Strong team player
