Role Profile

For Unilever to competently operate in the new digital world, we will need to significantly transform our processes, behaviors, cross-organization structures & supporting IT eco-system to enable fast, accurate and seamless end-to-end management of the data, content and codes that are directly related to the individual components and products (CUs) we buy, produce, sell and advertise.

Real-time, high quality, product-linked data for product development, procurement, production and associated communication, combined with a feedback loop of external market and consumer data for better decision making, will be critical to achieving speed and agility in bringing winning products to market. It will also be fundamental to managing costs and driving business growth. This new approach will need to be rooted in deep behavior change in how we create, publish and reuse data and content, that is right-first-time, and then augmented by new digital/data/robotic technologies to accelerate the e2e product data management process with speed and accuracy.

This vision of end-to-end product data management supported by a data highway, from material supplier to external consumer touchpoints in both the physical and digital world (ie pack on shelf, brand.com, eComm, carelines, traceability sites etc) is fundamental do drive the digital transformation.

CARA (standing for Content Authoring Reuse and Assembly) will manage product content and orchestrate the processes we use to create and communicate it, covering all physical and digital touchpoints (e.g. physical pack, brand.com, ecommerce, Carelines, SmartLabel, etc). CARA is an integrated capability which will enable Unilever to achieve the following Vision: 'Our product content is comprehensive, correct, readily available and efficiently produced. It is seamlessly reused across all our channels enabling us to communicate in an accurate, consistent and engaging way about our products with our consumers'.

CARA is planned to be designed, developed and implemented in releases to ensure a smooth business transition to the digital transformation.

CARA 2.0 will manage the orchestration of the upstream product data which encompass integration will Innoflex (project data), TAB (The Asset Bank) for assets like images and logos, R&D PLM /PIT for formulation and packaging data and Blue and PMA (Print Management Agencies) for the creation, coordination and approval of artworks. First deployment markets will be Foods and Refreshment in Europe and North America.

CARA 3.0 will prioritize the integration of master code management programme (mainly NeCo), end-to-end claims management (from ideation, substation, risk assessment and local adaptions) and the initial aspects of downstream data provision related to R&D data for on-line communications with consumers (powered by the integration with Smart Label / PIOTI).

CARA 4.0 will deliver the vision of end-to-end product data with the provision of the entire upstream data (collected and orchestrated in CARA 2.0 and expanded by CARA 3.0) to the downstream systems like PIM2C, KWERY, PCP, brand.com to then, drive entirely the digital transformation journey.
