Hybrid Working
Structured hybrid role:
At Barclays, we offer a hybrid working experience that blends the positives of working alongside colleagues at our onsite locations, together with working from home. We have a structured approach where colleagues work at an onsite location on fixed, 'anchor', days of the week, for a minimum of two days a week or more, as set by the business area (or nearest equivalent if working part-time hours). This role is part of the central CTO Architecture team supporting CIB businesses with responsibilities for design, design governance, improving ways of working, reducing TCO for our technology estate and accelerating public and private cloud adoption.
As a CTO Lead Architect, your role is to work alongside the tech delivery teams, providing technical architecture coaching, guidance and governance to ensure that solutions will most effectively meet the business need and align with the group technology strategy principles, policies and standards. Beyond your business function aligned work you will also be involved in setting technical direction for the broader organisation through participation in group-wide technology domains and standard setting. What will you be doing
. Contribute to multi-year architectural roadmaps that are consistent with Barclays Data and Technology Strategy, better support our businesses, exploit new technology, reduce TCO, simplify the estate, and influence the delivery book of work to align with that roadmap over a multi-year period.
. Ensure architecture is thought through front to back including alignment with Barclays technology and data strategy, interaction with other business units and group-wide infrastructure services, is reviewed & governed in accordance with the company architecture standards
. Foster a culture of continuous improvement in developer productivity and delivery effectiveness.
. Partner with solution architects and engineers to analyse and identify technical solutions to architectural challenges specific to their areas, understanding and challenging requirements, to develop systems that are efficient, resilient, secure, cost-effective and operable
. Help delivery teams and architects unblock tech obstacles by using your network across of architects and product managers across businesses and central function, and influence them to use well known patterns and preferred products.
. Participate in group technology strategy
. Ensure ongoing software deliveries are developed and documented in line with the business unit and group architecture strategies, and the company's software development standards
. Evaluate new technologies, building POCs where appropriate, guide selection of vendor products and provide technical consultancy for new initiatives
What we're looking for:
. Ability to quickly and effectively understand a complex business sufficiently for sound architecture decisions
. Candidate must hold BE/BTech degree.
. Understanding of modern software development practices & lifecycle
. Technical architecture / designing for non-functional requirements
. Broad understanding of current common technologies, e.g. Linux, relational DBs, messaging, containers
. Effective communication verbally and via diagrams & documents to influence technical & business stakeholders
. Hands on capability to work with Lead Architects, Solution Architects and developers in supporting resolution of critical issues
Skills that will help you in the role:
. Banking, related financial services or other highly regulated industry experience
. Enterprise architecture standards & practices
. Masters preferred
. Specialised architecture certifications like AWS/Cloud/TOGAF etc
. Recent hands-on development experience
. Domain Driven Design, Data Modelling, Event Driven Architecture, APIs, Public Cloud architecture
