Who is Giving Green?  

We research and publicize highly effective giving opportunities in climate—that is, organizations doing impactful work with a strong need for additional funding—to empower everyone to move money towards high-impact solutions. Launched four years ago, Giving Green has moved millions of dollars and landed press mentions in Vox, the Atlantic, Time, and more. Our flagship “product” is our nonprofit recommendations, and we have also published work on corporate climate strategiesand climate and ESG investing. We also work with businesses, foundations, and others to advise their climate giving under specific constraints, e.g. our guide for Australian donors who need to give to in-country charities. We are a small team and are fiscally sponsored by IDinsight, a global data analytics and advisory nonprofit.

Giving Green is at an inflection point in our growth. Our impact has so far been driven primarily by inbound interest—a wonderful problem to have!—but we believe that we can multiply our impact a hundredfold in the coming years with a proactive growth strategy that introduces our work to new audiences. You will be a key part of shaping that strategy and driving that impact.

Giving Green is hiring! We’re looking to grow our growth team – the team that manages our communications and development efforts to raise more funds for high-impact climate work.

Who are we looking for?  

A Growth, Communications, and/or Development Officer - we’ll shape this role’s title and responsibilities together. We’re open to a role that’s more communications-focused or more development-focused, depending on candidates’ expertise and interest. You might be a seasoned major gift fundraiser ready to lead our growth team, or you might be an early-career communications professional with a sharp focus on execution and a readiness to iterate and learn across all growth channels. Above all, we’re looking for someone who’s passionate about growing effective climate giving and ready to get their hands dirty to make that happen.

• Location: Remote; US preferred.This could be a full-time, part-time, or contract role. See “Nuts and bolts” below for details.

Responsibilities may include:

• Communications:
  • Lead GG’s overall communications and marketing strategy
  • Stay abreast of climate news and take advantage of opportunities for GG – e.g. crafting timely media pitches and social media posts
  • Collaborate with the research team to produce visual and written content for our website, social media, newsletter, and other digital communications
  • Make our research accessible and transparent: edit and polish research documents for publication-readiness, propose and create new products that translate our research ideas for a wider audience
  • Find and organize events for GG to engage with the broader climate and philanthropy communities
  • Coordinate with external vendors, partners, and GG’s recommended organizations where appropriate
• Development
  • Lead GG’s overall development strategy across public, philanthropic, and corporate audiences
  • Represent GG in climate and philanthropy spaces, online and offline, to build connections with future partners and funders 
  • Serve as a champion for the research product, able to understand and translate wonky, technical ideas to a wide variety of audiences
  • Identify and cultivate relationships with potential supporters of our recommended nonprofits or of GG itself, and steward the donor journey with donors small and large
  • Manage our development “products” - our pitch decks, annual reports, grant proposals and reports, and so on
  • Work with growth and operations teammates to manage fundraising data, donor stewardship and timely acknowledgement, and impact measurement

Desired Qualifications

(Note: We know that strong candidates may not check all boxes, but we are looking for strength in some areas and a willingness to grow in others.)

• At least two years’ professional communications, marketing, and/or development experience
• Experience in climate or environmental issues and knowledge of key stakeholders and changemakers
• Experience effectively sharing complex, nuanced, and technical ideas with a general audience
• Experience in development and donor relations, especially in building 1-1 relationships 
• Demonstrated success in securing traditional media coverage 
• Demonstrated success in growing a digital audience
• Experience with digital communications tools and platforms, e.g. Google Analytics, Mailchimp, LinkedIn, Hubspot, Google Ads, Facebook Ads
• Experience with design and brand identity, particularly donor-centric 
• Excellent oral and written communication skills in English; attention to detail
• Ability to develop your own work timelines and products; comfort taking initiative on a small team; ability to project-manage for collaborators on your workstreams
• Entrepreneurial spirit, passion for taking action on climate change, and strong values aligned with Giving Green’s values

• Our application process consists of a 15-minute phone screen, a 2-3 hour work task, and two 1-hour interviews.

Nuts and bolts:

• We are a fully remote team. Candidates must have legal authorization to work in the country in which they will be based. We prefer a candidate in the US, but are flexible for a candidate who brings a strong background in comms and would take on a more communications-focused role.
• We are primarily seeking someone to fill a “full-time” exempt position at 4 or 5 days a week; however, we are also open to a more seasoned professional looking for a part-time or fractional role.
• Compensation is competitive for the non-profit sector, and will be tailored to the location and experience of the applicant. As a benchmark, for a full-time (5-day week), US-based hire, we are targeting $50,000-$110,000, with some flexibility for an exceptional candidate.
