About Us

WWF-India is setting up a Climate Change Hub - an initiative aimed at integrating and mainstreaming climate in its programmatic work across biodiversity conservation and ecological footprint pillars. The Climate Hub is envisioned to be a 'think tank' witha strong focus on connecting nature conservation and climate change. The Hub will work with key external stakeholders and institutions (both national and global), that are active in research, implementation, financing low-carbon development, policy development, energy transition and climate adaptation. The Climate Hub will also implement ongoing projects like the One Planet City Challenge — a global platform for cities to showcase climate action; Climate Solver — a global initiative to support the development and scale up of innovative low-carbon technologies and will also support the work on energy transition and nature based solutions being implemented by other programs.

We are looking for a Director for the Climate Hub division. These position will be part of the thought leadership group in WWF-India, responsible for shaping the organisation's work on climate change in the next decade. This position will work closely with high-impact cross-cutting teams — both within India and across the WWF network — working on conserving terrestrial, freshwater and marine species and their habitats; local community resilience, sustainable and regenerative agriculture, sustainable business and finance.

Roles and responsibilities:

Leadership & Management

  • Provide leadership to the Climate Hub; develop and implement the Climate Hub strategy to connect biodiversity conservation and climate change.
  • Build, mentor and effectively manage a high-performing team.
  • Work with different programme teams of WWF-India to prepare high-quality and cross-cutting funding proposals and raise funds to carry out strategic work in priority freshwater, marine and terrestrial habitats.
  • Drive resource mobilization to ensure the availability of adequate resources to effectively meet the objectives of the Climate Hub.
  • Promote integration of climate concerns, measures and strategies across WWF programmes

Research, policy engagement and partnerships

  • Keep a tab on developments in the sector nationally and internationally and strategize WWF-India's engagement with key sectors and stakeholders.
  • Identify new and emerging areas of technical and policy research for climate change and be responsible for high-quality knowledge products such as reports, policy briefs & communication collaterals for wider dissemination and advocacy.
  • Analyze and monitor global and national level policies and regulations to assess implications and opportunities for WWF-India's climate advocacy work.
  • Lead partnership development and steer policy engagements with decision makers, central government ministries and state government departments,government organizations, think tanks, public research/training institutes and universities to collaborate on climate-related issues at national, sub-national and global levels.
  • Act as WWF-India's focal point on climate change-related work in the WWF network.
  • Represent WWF-India at key external fora/ platforms to showcase climate initiatives

Requirements

Qualifications, Experience and competencies required:

  • A PhD or Master's degree from a recognised academic/professional institution on Climate science/ policy, environmental sciences or related areas.
  • At least 12-15 years of professional experience in the climate change sector with demonstrated leadership in policy, research and team management.
  • Demonstrated experience and thought leadership on climate adaptation, energy transition and low carbon development pathways.
  • Excellent skills in large project coordination will be an added advantage.
  • E xperience of working with a range of stakeholders from the Government, industry, donors/philanthropies, think tanks, financial institutions, urban and rural stakeholders will be an added advantage.
  • Strong analytical and communication skills with proven ability to network with key stakeholders, influence decisions and drive agenda forward.
  • Ability to adjust priorities to meet emerging demands.
  • Ability to work independently without close supervision.
  • Excellent interpersonal and team skills and ability to work in a multi-cultural environment.
