Group Technology enables the organization to achieve its strategic direction whilst driving shareholder value. The division establishes common standards and IT governance across the business. It further develops and manages core applications enabling smooth operational running of the organization across all functions. We drive and deliver future roadmaps aligned to the overall strategic direction of the business. Group Technology support services to over 7500 end users across the globe, manage the information security operation and safeguard all our assets. Our core Group Technology functions include Technical Architecture, Network & Voice, IT Security, Service Delivery, Solutions Delivery and Asset Management. Group Technology has a global presence across all regions with over 400 staff.

Our Data Engineering team is responsible for developing, building, maintaining, and managing data pipelines. This requires working with large datasets, databases, and the software used to analyse them – including cloud systems like AWS or Azure.

Key Responsibilities

The primary focus of a data engineer is to ensure that data flows smoothly from its source to its destination efficiently and securely. The data engineer is the first line of data cleaning and wrangling. They are responsible for:

1. 1. Ensuring the accuracy of data
   2. Promoting data quality
   3. Transforming data into more useful formats. This can involve writing code to automate processes, leveraging machine learning algorithms to detect patterns or anomalies in data, or utilizing algorithms to identify correlations.

Skills & Experience

Microsoft SQL Server:

• • • Proficient in Microsoft SQL Server, including database design, optimization, and maintenance.
    • Skilled in T-SQL (Transact-SQL): Strong command over T-SQL for writing stored procedures, functions, views, triggers, and complex queries.
    • Management, configuration, and monitoring of SQL Jobs, along with expertise in SQL Agent service.
    • Experience in performance tuning and query optimization for large datasets.

SSIS (SQL Server Integration Services):

• • • Expertise in designing and implementing ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) packages/processes using SSIS.
    • Knowledgeable in creating and overseeing data ingestion for efficient integration from diverse sources (MySQL, PostgreSQL, MSSQL, CSV/Excel, etc.).
    • Experience with data cleansing, transformation, and loading strategies.

Monitoring and Troubleshooting:

• • • Experience in implementing monitoring solutions to track the performance of ETL processes and databases.
    • Strong troubleshooting skills to identify and resolve issues in data pipelines and databases.

C#:

• • • Proficient in C# programming language, with a focus on data manipulation and processing.
    • Ability to develop custom components and scripts within the SSIS framework using C#. Along with that experience in developing standalone class libraries using C#.
    • Knowledge of the .NET framework and its integration with SQL Server.

Additional Skills

Azure:

• • • Experience with Azure Cloud and its associated services in the realm of data engineering.
    • Proficient in using Azure Data Factory for building, orchestrating, and automating data workflows.
    • Knowledge of integrating data engineering solutions with other Azure services, such as Azure SQL Database, Azure Blob Storage, Azure Data Lake Storage, and other Azure data services.
    • Experience using Databricks and Python (or Azure Synapse/ MS Fabric)

General

• • • Familiarity with version control systems like Git/Azure DevOps repos for managing codebase.
    • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot issues in data pipelines.
    • Understanding of data security and compliance standards.
    • Effective communication skills for collaborating with cross-functional teams.
    • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Computer Engineering, or a closely related field.
    • Required minimum of 4-5 years development experience.
