As Unilever's growth engine, we establish global white space businesses in key channels such as Health & Beauty, Discounters, E-Commerce, and alternate channels such as travel retail, marketing to institutional partners like the United Nations, and seeding Unilever brands to overseas diaspora who crave for a taste of their familiar home brands.

To support UIs sustainable and accelerated growth ambition, we are looking for a passionate, business oriented and people focused leader to drive the key R&D pillars of Impactful Innovation , Product Superiority , Complexity & 5S and Palm/Plastics on behalf of the UI business.

The role will report to the PC Chief R&D Officer and will be part of the PC R&D Leadership Team. It also has a dotted line to the CEO of UI and sits on the CLF of UI and the Marketing LT and SCLT. The role will head for UI the UI R&D and RA strategy (in collaboration with RA), execution, and people teams globally. Leading R&D for UI is combining the speed and agility of a start-up organization with the backbone, processes, and expertise of a corporate like Unilever. With the business growing at light speed, the R&D Head is a pivotal position to drive together with the marketing teams the UI business growth. We see the role as a guru on design thinking, latest technologies and industry trends. The R&D Head in UI at its best is challenging marketing and other functions to think creatively, inspires us to drive outside in focus and build powerful relationships with the BGs to unlock the impossible.

Main Purpose Of The Job

Provide R&D and RA leadership for the UI LT& teams, partnering the UI CEO and UI CMO.

  • Responsible for shaping and execution of UI R&D activity plans across BGs for innovation, Complexity & 5S, product superiority and sustainability (NDPE Palm & Plastic Reduction)
  • Bring R&D leadership in the UI LT and inspire and lead the UI R&D team across globe.
  • Lead the regulatory compliance agenda in line with business and audit requirements for a highly complex global business in collaboration with the PC Head of RA and the Head of Global Product Compliance. Ensuring RA and CR compliance, quarterly compliance reporting, audit compliance and speedy delivery of new innovations in line with RA.
  • Be the 'consumer voice' of UI to ensure global programs are shaped such that they land with impact.
  • Set up strong digital backbone for R&D and RA.
  • Set up a R&D Ops shared service centre.
  • Innovation using internal and external (especially CMs) partners.
  • Be the R&D 'face' to the customer to support the GTM teams to land innovations with scale and impact.
  • Represent the needs of UI in the PC RDLT. Set up representation in each BG R&D and global RA.

Qualifications/ Experience

  • 10 - 15 + years of experience in RA and R&D
  • Consistent outperformance and demonstrated expertise in R&D
  • Science/ Engineering related qualification or relevant experience within R&D
  • Experience of working globally in multi-disciplinary, multi-cultural teams
  • Experience of complex project management
  • Demonstration of holding accountability, impact and influence
  • A strong growth mindset and ability to challenge
  • Demonstrable evidence of ddetermination to drive team behind business agenda, applying and developing skills and expertise to the most important and impactful consumer and business challenges.
