About the Team

Momentum is the design system for the 30+ products found within Ciscos Collaboration Business Group. It is a series of guidelines, documentation, tools, tokens, and libraries that create a consistent experience across the product ecosystem. This system supports the creative development and implementation of all our products, and we are constantly striving to improve it.

About the Role

As a part of the Momentum team, youll be responsible for building the next generation of that design system. You will work closely with Momentum designers and engineers, as well as other contributors across our organization to develop innovative systems, processes, toolkits, and plugins which will help all our designers, engineers, and product managers build better products together.

As a Senior Engineer [C(1] you will be responsible for designing and building a brand-consistent set of tools that bridge designers and engineers together. These tools will be primarily derived from JavaScript and centered around web experiences but are not limited to this scope. The libraries and tools developed here will reduce operations cost and promote a delightful, compelling user experience..

Who You Are

• Someone with experience building web components, shadow DOM, multiple UI frameworks/libraries and open source design system tools.
• You solve strategic problems, while keeping your hands on the day to day youll solve short term problems, identify potential risk, and create plan for the future. [C(3][T(4]
• Aims to apply strategic refactors to produce maintainable code across multiple business units which is backwards compatible.
• Educates your peers and encourages them to explore standard methodologies and new ways of working. [C(5]
• Works side-by-side with designers sweating the details, and ask questions that improve our systems.
• Explores how to improve the tools and processes that we use to produce and distribute our design system across engineering and design teams.
• Can articulate abstract design problems and elaborate the problems into engineering solutions that directly impact the business and the customer experience. [C(6]
• Helps grow a design system as a product that aims to improve collaboration and trust.
• Someone who takes ownership of a problem and takes it to completion in a collaborative environment.
• Guidance ability to counsel and advise stakeholders on optimal technical solutions.
• Character the integrity to take ownership, admit mistakes, and tenacity to say 'I don't know but will find out'.
• Empathy an appreciation of all types of people and ability to compromise.
• Communication excellent written, verbal, and organization skills.

Experience

• 8+ years of experience in front-end web development.
• Coding Javascript, Typescript, HTML, and CSS.
• Web components a working knowledge of Web components and frameworks like Lit and Stencil.
• Design systems an understanding of design systems, UI toolkits, and design tokens.
• Figma an ability to work within Figma, with bonus points for knowledge of Figmas API.
