Know Watershed Organization ()

Established in 1993, WOTR is an internationally recognized non-profit organisation and think tank that engages at the intersection of practice, knowledge, and policy across scales and in collaboration with various stakeholders across sectors. WOTR's goal is to ensure water and food availability, along with livelihoods and income security – to support the sustainable growth and well-being of vulnerable and disadvantaged communities in rural India.

WOTR has been working with rural communities in India for 3 decades now. As of September 2023, it has touched the lives of over 6.93 million across 7124 villages in 10 states of India – Maharashtra, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, Odisha, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Bihar and Karnataka. It has included participants from 63 countries in training and exposure programs. On the ground over 2.64 million hectares of degraded landscapes/watersheds have been regenerated, over 158 billion liters of potential water harvesting capacity has been created and agriculture productivity has increased significantly with a 121% increase in area under triple cropping. Farm incomes in most project villages are 2 to 4 times more than those in control villages. Moreover, it has facilitated over 21,500 SHGs involving 2,52,829 women.

EXPERIENCE

Duties you'll be entrusted with:

• Write scientific reports, and policy briefs on different studies conducted by WOTR related to Climate Change Adaptation, Integrated Land and Water Management, Economics, Food and Nutrition Security, Biodiversity, and others
• Work in a team (lead or partner) to design and conduct interdisciplinary research including, but not limited to: action research, systematic reviews, and other synthesis products and database development
• To collaborate with different teams, universities, research institutes to undertake various studies
• Contribute to research papers and articles preferably in peer-reviewed journals and publications
• Dissemination of research findings to different stakeholders: village communities and representing WOTR in various workshops, conferences, meetings, etc.
• Design and Conduct impact assessment studies of various project interventions
• Assists and also writes proposals to various donors and institutes for research funding

Expectations from you:

Basic Requirements

• Educational Qualifications: PhD / MPhil/MSc. in Economics/Agricultural Economics/ Environmental Economics with a broad understanding of agriculture, natural resources, and human development

Skills Requirements

• Experience in research in the Economics of Natural Resources, Agriculture, and Climate change
• Well-versed with Quantitative Techniques (sampling, Cost-Benefit Analysis, Valuation of Natural Resources, Impact Assessment methodology)
• Should be able to do a good review of the literature
• Good knowledge of policy analysis and quantitative data analysis but should have the flexibility to do qualitative data analysis, too (if required); skill in developing tools for investigation (quantitative and qualitative)
• Willingness to Diversify skills and activities in other relevant areas of Economics (as per the need of the organization)
• Papers published in Peer-reviewed journals (preferably having been at least 2nd author)
• Good research writing skills
• Willingness to research with an interdisciplinary team
• Willingness to travel to different project locations for fieldwork.
• Excellent communication (writing, speaking, presentation) skills in English is essential
• Good knowledge of Hindi
