Job Overview

Lummus Technology operating group provides a wide range of licensed process technologies, proprietary equipment and related services to the petrochemical, petroleum refining and oil and gas industries. We are seeking an Instrument & Process Control Engineer for our Engineering group. Role will have responsibility for Instrumentation & Process Control Systems design and analysis for assigned deliverables on Lummus Technology projects, as well as instrument and process control support activities. Position will require interface with other project team members during project execution and participation in design and progress meetings.

Key Responsibilities/Accountabilities

  • Provide specialist input and guidance on all instrument related aspects of process design to our technical staff including process engineers, mechanical engineers, heater engineers.
  • Read, understand, and evaluate client instrumentation and control related specifications and requirements.
  • Be familiar with ISA P & I symbology and depiction of instrumentation, control and safety interlocks.
  • Produce instrument schedules from existing P&I diagrams, when required for extended scope projects.
  • Preparation and review of instrument data sheets, when required.
  • Is able to perform and review calculations for control valves, safety relief valves and flow orifices.
  • Contributes to HAZOP and SIL meetings technical expertise relating to instrumentation and control.
  • Perform technical evaluation of quotations for instrumentation specialty items.
  • Write acceptance requirements for instrument items to be installed and/or tested.
  • Attend and report on testing of instruments, control valves and control systems.
  • Reviews auxiliary equipment and instrumentation systems quotations
  • Design of instrumentation, control/safeguarding on P&ID basis and scope descriptions.
  • Capable to select the correct process controls, safeguarding system arrangement of the scope items, in line with the specific requirements.
  • Evaluate quotations for control/safeguarding systems.
  • Attend and report Factory Acceptance Test/Site Acceptance Test of control/safeguarding systems.
  • Write FAT test and acceptance requirements for control/safeguarding systems.
  • Write provisional operating instructions.
  • Be able to do root cause analysis of any incident/trouble at a client site.
  • Be able to provide design basis for control/safety system.
  • Be able to assist with answering client questions relating to instrumentation and control.

Basic Qualifications

  • 2-8 years of industry experience as a process, instrument & process control engineer in Refining or Petrochemicals industry
  • Skilled in MS Word, Excel and Power Point
  • Experience with the use of general application software for process design and process controls
  • Experience with the use of an Instrument Database application
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, including ability to communicate fluently in English.
  • Willing and able to travel (domestic & international) for business trips, meetings or training.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Knowledge of process and systems design tools and procedures
  • Ability to drive effective teams including supervision and coaching of all levels of engineers.
  • Strong drive to innovate.
  • Must be able to work in a dynamic, multi-national and multi-cultural environment as a great team player.
  • Concur experience is not a requirement, but ability to pick up online systems quickly is key to the success of the role.
