What you’ll be doing – your accountabilities
Set technical direction for the L2C Provision,T2R and Numbering Domain, responsible for the solution designs, key design decisions and supporting the deployed solution.
Work with the primary stakeholders (e.g. CTIO, Product Managers, Technology Ops) to design and deliver a roadmap of IT system services that enable the launch of new propositions that exploit the network.
Translate business and derived requirements (both functional and non-functional) into a coherent design that integrates all aspects of the solution (network, system, process and people) and ensure it works end-to-end.
Provide design assurance ensuring the solution is aligned with the BT enterprise / platform architecture and follows strategy, policies and standards.
Ensure that the Domain solution designs are high quality, cost-effective and delivered on time.
Follow an agile methodology, providing iterative software design and delivery using user stories across a number of releases.
Responsible for design decisions covering how multiple components will work together to provide a solution that fulfils the needs of the customer.
Advise business leads on how to breakdown large and complex solutions into logical deliverables that maximise automation.
Lead E2E design calls to ensure overall solution works – and understand how components fit in the overall solution.
Provide analytical and innovative input to projects/operational issues, as well as support negotiations.
Coaching and mentoring Solution designers and Senior Solution designers.
Challenging requirements if they are not clear by going back to the requirement owner and explaining what needs to be improved this could be done at a Senior Management level.
Managing change to existing products, bringing in new products that don’t break the framework
You will also be responsible for
Cost -Driving efficiency and cost reduction through defining Brilliant and Simple requirements to the supplier and other BT systems
Quality - Ensuring rigorous, scalable and highly available solutions to underpin the OSS stackto support VoIP services.
Delivery - Deliver high level designs in timely fashion in time for RPM-10.
The skills you’ll need to succeed
First class solution design skills including the ability to draw up extremely accurate specifications that can be used by local and remote development teams.
Ability to gather business requirements and quickly design, build and test iterative solutions based on those requirements.
Ability to lead and give clear direction to cross-functional teams (e.g. stakeholders, component designers, E2E test designers), onshore and offshore, to design a solution and to ensure delivery to cost, quality and time.
Application of IT enterprise architecture and design patterns to solution designs.
Clearly explains highly complex ideas, tailoring the comms for the audience.
Application of good software engineering practice to complex systems design.
Business analysis
Ability to complete complex e2e designs
Provide technical leadership for groups of designs
Shaping/driving cost optimised technical solutions to meet customer requirements.
System Architecture: thorough understanding of principles E2E solution design process understanding
Understanding of business process journeys (L2C, T2R, P&B).
ITIL/ETOM/TOGAF qualification.
