Job Overview

Lummus Technology operating group provides a wide range of licensed process technologies, proprietary equipment and related services to the petrochemical, petroleum refining and oil and gas industries. We are seeking an engineering specialist who shall be able to develop, maintain and assure proper usage of thermodynamic and physical property method sets used in the development and design of the company's process technologies. As such, this person will be a participant in each of the basic engineering packages developed for the company's clients. He or she will serve as a consultant to members of process engineering teams on all aspects of thermophysical properties with particular emphasis on their application to process simulation. The ideal person for this job would be detail oriented, able to work well with others, and able to react well to time pressures of project deadlines and changing priorities due to multiple customers. Good communication skills are important.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare thermophysical property method sets that meet the design needs of individual process technologies.
  • Approve and sign-off on thermophysical method sets to be used for each of the process simulation efforts undertaken by the company.
  • Serve as a consultant and resource person for the daily needs of the company in this specialist field.
  • Maintain detailed knowledge of the property generation system of the process simulation programs used throughout the company.
  • Maintain working knowledge of all aspects of commercial process simulation tools used by the company.
  • Develop and maintain corporate standards, practices, and design tools.
  • Represent the company at technical committee meetings such as API.

Basic Qualifications

  • Minimum of five to ten years hands-on experience in all aspects of applied thermodynamics especially in phase equilibrium field.
  • Recent PhD graduates with relevant research experience will be considered.
  • Good understanding of the fundamentals of thermodynamics, applied thermodynamics, transport properties and physical property generation methods.
  • Expertise in the various property generation methods available in the commonly used process simulation programs.
  • Experience in the development and troubleshooting thermodynamic component of complicated process simulations.
  • Expertise in parameter estimation for thermophysical methods
  • Solid command of process simulation fundamentals and experience with PRO/II simulation program.
  • Familiarity with reading Process Flow Diagrams
  • Expertise in one or more thermodynamic applications tools; for example, experience with PRO II, DIPPR, NIST REFPROP, API, OLI
  • Experience in process engineering practices and typical workflow
  • Good verbal, writing and listening skills.
  • Skilled in MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Willing and able to travel (domestic & international) for business trips, meetings or training.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Knowledge of process and systems design tools and procedures
  • Ability to drive effective teams including supervision and coaching of all levels of engineers.
  • Strong drive to innovate.
  • Must be able to work in a dynamic, multi-national and multi-cultural environment as a great team player.
  • Concur experience is not a requirement, but ability to pick up online systems quickly is key to the success of the role.

Desired/Preferred Qualifications

  • Degree in chemical engineering, advanced degree preferred.
