As part of the DISH Wireless Core Engineering and Ops Team, this Engineer will join the team of passionate engineers with start-up spirit to deploy and debug DISH's standalone 5G voice and packet core network. This team focuses on the deployment of our 5G voice and packet core powered by Nokia, Mavenir and Oracle. This team is an engineering and operational team working in a live production environment, utilizing CI/CD operations in order to test, debug, and deploy solutions live. This is a great opportunity for an individual to step on board a growing and financially strong start up.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Deploy and support 5G sdm, voice and packet core network functions across a cutting edge cloud native standalone 5G SA network.
- Engage with vendor personnel at Nokia, Mavenir and Oracle to implement new services and features as well as upgrades.
- Ensure that solutions adhere to defined standards and best practices.
- Able to work in a fast-paced environment, under pressure, with strict deadlines, both as an individual contributor and team player.
- Participates in knowledge transfer, documentation and information sharing while staying abreast of new technology/technical areas.
Skills, Experience and Requirements
As a successful 5G Core Engineer I will have the following:
- Bachelor's degree in Telecommunications or Electronics/Computer Engineering.
- 12-16 years of experience working within the Wireless industry on either the carrier or vendor side of the house.
- Experience in implementing, integrating, testing and deploying solutions in the 5G voice and packet core domain.
- Hands-on experience with 5G voice and packet core network design and implementation, incl how 5G differs in scope and technology from previous generations.
- Knowledge and/or documented work experience in IMS core and SDM NFs incl HSS/HLR/UDM/AUSF/UDR/EIR/IMEIDB & Paco NFs UPF/AMF/SMF.
- Familiar with containers and relevant technologies such as Kubernetes, Docker or Openshift.
- Working knowledge of 3GPP 5G SA voice and packet core architecture.
- Familiar with DevOps and CI/CD methodology. Proven work experience in 5G / CUPS / LTE.
- Knowledge of Python scripting or any other scripting language (bash, Tcl).
- Knowledge of Protocol Analysis, Wireshark, NetScout, RADCOM or other similar tools.
- General understanding of standard telecom and networking protocols, components such as DNS, SRV6, TCP/IP, ICMP and load balancing.
- Self-starter, capable of working independently, innovative and eager to learn state-of-the art technologies.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
