The
Technical Manager – Manufacturing Engineering is a key member of the Manufacturing Engineering COE team in ETC who will coordinate and organize the production process methods and engineering activities that enable production. This includes new product launch programs and aiding in Manufacturing Assessment Builds and Manufacturing Validation Builds. The position is responsible for developing, implementing and maintaining production processes to drive quality and efficiency and to develop manufacturing plans which improve operations competitiveness.
Core Job Responsibilities (others May Be Added)- Responsible for developing concepts and defining manufacturing processes for Assembly on new product introductions and product enhancement programs, using advanced engineering techniques such as DFM / DFA (Design for Manufacturability and Assembly), FMEA, 3P (Production, Preparation Process), 7-Ways, and Lean Six Sigma Methodology.
- Manages, develops and improves manufacturing standards including machine capability, process maps, set-ups, quality controls, tooling and fixture records, routings and cycle times.
- Build manufacturing infrastructure within the plant facility for operations/production by leveraging external suppliers for structural, instrumentation, control systems/ robotics etc.
- Applies statistical methods to estimate future manufacturing requirements and potential.
- Confers with vendors to determine tools, product and services specifications and arranges for purchase of equipment, materials, or parts, and evaluates products according to specifications and quality standards.
- Identify innovative solutions to meet product and process requirements.
- Ensures all equipment meets OSHA compliant safety regulations.
- Drives engineering principles and discipline through mentoring, training and project reviews including: PFMEA, Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP), Dynamic Control Plans (DCP), Lean Tools, Project Management and Simultaneous Engineering
- Applying Project management practices to managing a cross functional project team to achieve desired results.
- Ensure effective and efficient completion of projects by planning and implementing courses of action with other functions and key stakeholders
- Implement production techniques for building to actual customer demands, Kanbans, prioritizing builds, expediting and automating transactions per Lean concepts.
- Identify and implement safety improvements, waste reductions and resource conservation.
- Participate in value stream analysis to assess the efficiency and effectiveness of current operations and ideate new future state. Review existing and new procedures/controls to identify obstacles, create plans and perform changes in the software tools.
- Conduct Process FMEAs; develop and execute resulting risk mitigation plans / control Plans.
- Provide technical support to manufacturing engineering, EHS, suppliers, Quality and operations in each of their deliverables.
- Meet the needs of internal and external customers, through documenting, understanding and prioritizing customer requirements.
Both domestic and international travel may be required. Estimated travel is 30%.
Minimum Qualifications - Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology and at least 9-11 years of Product engineering or Manufacturing Engineering experience is required.
- Master's Degree in Engineering is a plus.
Key Competencies - Shall have competency in the areas of Lean Manufacturing, Assembly Process, Production Preparation Process (3P), Time Study, Factory workflow, Project Management, DELMIA 3DX software modules.
- 8+ years of experience in driving projects through Gate processes and conducting Independent Design Reviews with Cross functional teams.
- 5+ years of engineering experience in a manufacturing environment
- Experience in building manufacturing infrastructure within the plant facility for operations/production by leveraging external suppliers for structural, instrumentation, control systems/ robotics etc.
- Exposure to Industry 4.0 elements. Knowledge of design and development of manufacturing Automation and its effect in manufacturing processes.
- Demonstrated understanding of project management related to a manufacturing facility by relating to Capital expenditure, Productivity and Investments.
- Demonstrated ability to quickly determining root cause utilizing Lean Tools
- Demonstrated ability to quickly assess manufacturing issues related to design and tolerances.
- Detailed understanding of Production workflow, material flow and process characteristics.
- Excellent analytical, mathematical, project management and problem-solving skills. Ability to take innovative approaches to improve processes and solves problems.
- Ability to quickly and efficiently understand and organize information necessary to make engineering decisions.
- Ability to make progress by completing tasks and deliverables in a multi-tasking environment (several concurrent assignments) on time.
- Exposure to supply chain planning, demand planning, logistics, purchasing.
- Exposure to operations, Quality Control, inventory management, MRP and lean manufacturing processes.
- Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to communicate and influence effectively with various audiences.
