About Us

The Data Analyst will be responsible for collating, maintaining, and analysing data for international and national interest projects in the TRAFFIC India Office. This will result in projects of international and national importance to address issues in the supply chains of natural resources, evaluation, and production of informative outputs on transborder wildlife trade dynamics. S/he will be responsible for designing, analysing, and producing relevant interventions in collaboration with partners/stakeholders in their implementations. This will be achieved in collaboration with other TRAFFIC staff (across the globe) and WWF staff in India, and other offices.

The Data Analyst will work under the supervision of the Associate Director TRAFFIC India and the overall guidance of the Country-lead TRAFFIC India Office.

Job Profile:
  • Scanning open-source media/databases/published data for reported cases of wildlife crime and illegal trade.
  • Catalogue trade data for natural resources such as medicinal plants, timber and fisheries
  • Monthly report on the trends of Illegal wildlife trade, and wildlife crime, for key species/groups.
  • Monitor cyberspace for key species in illegal trade for specific species/groups.
  • Assist in the preparation/review of training manuals/tools/technologies for enhancing the capacity of LEA, or relevant agencies.
  • Assist and facilitate with researching background information, proposals, reports.
  • Assist in project and program development and any other project-related work as instructed by the Associate Director.

  • Based on the previous experience, the candidate can be used for either the following:
    • Assessment and efficacy of new tools/technology which is provided, and procure the same.
    • Capacity building programs for LEA/ other agencies.
  • Assist in project and program development and any other project-related work as instructed by the Associate Director.

Key Deliverables:
  • Daily update of wildlife crime database, and create a dashboard for the same.
  • Monthly report on the trends of Illegal wildlife trade, and wildlife crime, for key species/groups.
  • Annually two reports (Annual) on the trade (legal/illegal) for certain key species/groups.

Requirements

Desired Qualifications and Experience:
  • A Master's degree with a minimum of 3 years of experience in the conservation sector .
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience working on data in the conservation sector, in program development.
  • Proven experience of working with government law enforcement agencies on wildlife trade.
  • Experience in data science, information management, with a bit of statistics/ statistical programming
  • Working experience of tolls such as (paid programs) Matlab, SPSS, SAS, Jupyter, or (open-sourced) R including coding in R, Python, and scripting languages with creation of API such as MS, VB, or .NET using database (Access, or MS SQL) with web application HTML 5 or CSS 3.
