Your Role and Responsibilities
Role IBM is seeking highly motivated individuals with comprehensive commercial procurement and client facing or consulting experience to join our team of procurement professionals. Specifically, we are looking for procurement professionals to join IBM’s Global Procurement team in support of IBM Procurement Services business area, servicing IBM’s external clients.
Responsibility Areas: - The Category Manager leads sourcing projects for our clients along with category insights to assist in their strategy development across hardware, software, services, telecommunications, technology, fleet and logistics, vehicle leases, fuel, tires, warehousing, packaging, freight (Ocean, Air, Truckload, LTL, Small Parcel), Information Technology, Marketing & Communication, Corporate & Professional Services, Commercial Airline, Hotel, Car Rental, Travel Management Company, Corporate Payment, Online Booking Tool, Expense Solution, Contingent Workforce; Business Process Outsourcing; Corporate Tax, Audit & Accounting; Legal, HR Administration & Benefits; Learning & Development, Travel & Expense, Facilities Management and related categories.
- Develops category strategies and sourcing strategies for the assigned areas of responsibility.
- Builds relationships with client stakeholders such that Category Manager can demonstrate value in continued engagement, can challenge the client stakeholders when fruitful, and can bring additional subject matter expertise.
- Identifies cost savings opportunities across the client’s Travel spend.
- Acts as a trusted advisor and SME in the areas of sourcing and negotiating contracts for Travel and other Indirect categories.
- Achieve cost savings, risk mitigation, and process efficiencies through various value levers.
- Lead supplier selection process across multiple projects within the category, with various scope and client stakeholder groups.
- Lead negotiations with current and potential suppliers as part of the contract renewal or vendor selection process.
- Collect and analyze internal/external category data, metrics, and reports to track performance against targets.
- Ability to analyze multiple data sets to identify opportunities and category insights.
- Participate in category councils and business reviews to support collaboration, knowledge sharing, opportunity identification, and overall relationship development.
- Innovate within the procurement space; look at new ways to structure programs or categories, benefit from changes in supply market, or modify tools/processes to add value.
- Provide support throughout the sourcing and contracting process when necessary, ensuring seamless handoff to our clients when appropriate.

Required Technical and Professional Expertise
- 11 to 16 years in Procurement Strategic Buying, Category Management
- Baseline Creation & Savings Analysis: Knowledge of and ability to create baseline and savings analysis for procurement project. Also, knowledge of savings methodologies and how to calculate savings for each methodology.
- Client Facing Skills: Ability to maintain professionalism in communications with all levels of external client stakeholders. Experience being in a client facing role. Ability to deliver high quality project deliverables on time and with the level of attention to detail the client expects.
- Client Relationship Management: Knowledge of the techniques and the ability to establish and maintain healthy working relationships with Clients.
- Data Analysis: Knowledge of and ability to utilize data analysis tools to sort through and analyze enterprise data in order to identify factors influencing business performance and to gain greater insight into trends within a business, industry and customer base.
- Dealing with Disorder: Knowledge of tactics and ability to function effectively in the face of volatility, uncertainty, complexity, and ambiguity (VUCA).
- Effective Communications: Understanding of effective communication concepts, tools and techniques; ability to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas, information, and needs through the application of appropriate communication behaviors.
- Effective Presentations: Knowledge of effective presentation tools and techniques; ability to present information to groups with the appropriate degree of formality.
- Influencing: Knowledge of effective influencing tactics and strategies; ability to impact decisions within and outside own organization.
- Partnering for Clients’ Success: Knowledge of and insight into clients' key objectives and ability to work and think alongside clients to achieve clients' current and future aspirations and successes.
Preferred Technical and Professional Experience
System requirement: - ERP: Ariba, SAP, Oracle, Coupa, Tableau, Scout, Fieldglass, JIRA, PowerBI, SAPphire, etc.,
- MS Office
- Ability to analyze, improve and re-evaluate organizational procurement process continuously.
- MS Office: Strong knowledge and proficiency of Microsoft Office suite
- Strategic sourcing experience, in the areas such as Fleet and Logistics, Vehicle Leases, Fuel, Tires, Warehousing, Packaging, Freight (Ocean, Air, Truckload, LTL, Small Parcel), Information Technology, Marketing & Communication, Corporate & Professional Services, Travel & Expense, Facilities Management categories.
- Travel to client location on need basis.
- Deep business analysis and strategic thinking skills.
- Strong executive-level communication and relationship building skills.

- Purchasing Tasks and Activities: Knowledge of policies, regulations and processes of purchasing; ability to use practices and procedures for procurement of materials, components, equipment and services.
- Strategic Sourcing: Knowledge of strategic sourcing methods, technologies and processes;
