Job Summary

  • The primary purpose of this role is to provide strategic leadership and direction in the development of cutting-edge data science, machine learning and deep learning solutions to solve Lowe's retail problems at massive scale, while overseeing and guiding a team of data scientists to achieve these objectives. This position will provide a wide range of technical leadership, research, and production ready implementations and solutions collaborating closely with engineering, product management and business partner teams. You will support various initiatives such as: predictive modeling; personalization and recommendation, visual search, assortment optimization, pricing and promotion in digital/eCommerce space; advanced computer vision algorithms, generative AI (LLM , diffusion) to improve store operations , safety , product data quality, customer shopping experience, associate productivity across Lowe's physical stores, forecasting algorithms to optimize inventory and supply chain management across stores and distribution centers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Effectively manage highly skilled team of data scientists and motivate them to deliver impactful outcomes.
  • Ability to deal with ambiguity, anticipate future business needs, implement strategic frameworks, and develop staff accordingly.
  • Provides leadership to the team by attracting and hiring talented individuals, setting goals and communicating clear expectations, providing timely and constructive feedback as well as meaningful developmental opportunities, managing performance, providing resources and support as needed, and sponsoring and leading team members through change.
  • Translates business challenges and opportunities into project ideas, manages data science projects, collaborates with engineering leadership for deploying models at scale, ultimately responsible for timely deliverables with high-quality.
  • Builds, coaches, and mentors a strong team of Data Science professionals with varying levels of expertise.
  • Collaborates with cross-functional groups, stakeholders, and leadership to ensure alignment and understand business needs and deliver actionable insights and AI enabled products to improve store operations, safety, product data quality, customer shopping experience, associate productivity across Lowes business
  • Maintain expert-level knowledge on industry trends, emerging technologies, managing research initiatives to explore their potential application in home improvement domain
  • Partner with Product, Engineering, Business and Operations leadership to formulate roadmaps, influence decision making, and drive prioritization.
  • Provides input for departmental budget and forecasting, and manages expenses associated with initiatives within scope of responsibility

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Physics, Economics, Engineering, Computer Science, Data or Information Science, or related quantitative analytic field (or equivalent work experience in a related field) AND 10 years of experience in applied advanced analytics AND 8 years project management experience (OR)
  • Master's Degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Physics, Economics, Engineering, Computer Science, Data or Information Science, or related quantitative analytic field AND 8 years of experience in applied advanced analytics AND 6 years project management experience (OR)
  • Ph.D. in Mathematics, Statistics, Physics, Economics, Engineering, Computer Science, Data or Information Science, or related quantitative analytic field AND 6 years of experience in applied advanced analytics AND 4 years project management experience
  • 5 years of leadership experience with direct report responsibility
  • 8 years of experience with advanced data modeling techniques

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Mathematics, Statistics, Physics, Economics, Engineering, Computer Science, Data or Information Science, or related quantitative analytic field
  • 12 years of experience in applied advanced analytics
  • 5 years of leadership experience managing global team(s) in a retail environment
  • 8 years of experience with advanced data modeling techniques
  • 12 years project management experience
  • Hands on programming experience in Python, C++, Scala or equivalent languages
  • Proficient in using machine/deep learning frameworks & libraries – TensorFlow, pytorch, Keras, OpenCV
  • Hands on experience in deep learning neural networks like CNN, RNN, LSTM. Working experience on image classification, object detection, tracking , segmentation, recognition, OCR etc.
  • Strong math background and a proven ability to design & implement computationally intensive algorithms.
  • Experience in deploying large scale ML models, Optimizing ML models for performance.
  • Publications in top tier conferences such as CVPR, ECCV, ICCV, ICLR etc.
