Job description

The new SEAM organization integrates Safety, Environment & Asset Management activities with a broad geographical footprint that will support Shell's business & assets around the world.

The vision of SEAM is to provide capability across the spectrum of Safety, Environment and Asset Management with:

  • Shaping the future ways of working through introducing to the business new technology and news way of working, including e.g., digital, SBO, and real-time, data-driven, end-to-end optimization and risk management, but also global programmes like Human Performance Based Safety Philosophy.
  • Providing performance feedback driving disciplined execution to deliver reliable, predictable results.
  • Helping the businesses build their improvement plans and provide support to execute them.

The VP TAO will be accountable for maximizing integrated business value across the organization. Technical Asset Operations (TAO) is a key enabler for the accelerated delivery of Shell's Asset Management System and will help us to reach our ultimate potential in Downstream Manufacturing, Integrated Gas and Upstream. TAO provides high quality and cost-competitive technical resources who are not physically present at site yet are an integral part of asset teams delivering value through end-to-end AMS work processes.

The role of Technical Specialist - Maintenance in E&I Work planning is to understand the complexities and details of work planning in preventive and corrective maintenance activities, Prepare comprehensive work packs/task lists for preventive, corrective maintenance of Field instruments, Analyzer instruments, Control system instruments like PLC, DCS systems, switchgear, Battery systems, substation equipment's, control system and idea of transmission/operation at HV/LV voltage level in oil and gas, Refinery, Petrochemical industry instruments by studying the operations and maintenance manuals of OEMs, general task lists, equipment specific task lists, Test certificates, maintenance reports, spare part lists, preventive maintenance strategies etc. Guiding & helping team leads to improve performance of Maintenance activities and improving preventive/corrective maintenance processes by developing and implementing improvements in process design, maintenance execution, work preparation etc. Serves as a subject matter expert (SME)- analyzes processes and tools with a solid understanding of maintenance process. Support maintenance engineers as assigned from end-to-end basis initial respond, conduct detailed analyses & assessment, ensure correct prioritization of work, troubleshoot & propose technical solutions virtually, co-ordinate discussion with stakeholders, conduct Risk Assessment, ensure good QA/QC, record keeping, & final job closure to enable high equipment reliability & plant technical availability. Acts as the primary focal point for 'first answers' for the technical issues raised by TAO engineers and Asset Partners. Is one of the implementers to embed business context and technical knowledge into the Operations staff. Lead a variety of improvement projects as required.

Purpose & Accountabilities

  • Primary responsibility in preparing/developing work plan with comprehensive work packs from Calibration reports, maintenance reports, general task list, equipment specific task lists, spare part list, equipment's drawings, circuit diagrams, P&IDs, instrument logics, cause & effects , Equipment data sheets, operation and maintenance manuals of OEMs etc., for Field Instruments, Analyzer instruments, Control system instruments , electrical switchgear, HV/LV Transformers etc., for various operating units as per Shell Standards.
  • Interact and communicate with the site focals/technical authorities for preventive maintenance libraries and maintenance strategy review, maintenance optimization, maintenance scope review and optimizations and understanding the intricacies about how the actual maintenance activities for field instruments have been planned and performed in various Upstream, Down Stream & Integrated Gas Operating Units of Shell.
  • Liaise with asset partners in planning, preparing, scheduling, and prioritizing maintenance activities ensuring the required level of equipment integrity, reliability, and safety.
  • Provide asset partners with regular reports on performance and results and to be held accountable for area of responsibility.
  • Guide the team in creation the Preventive Maintenance (PM) tasklists and general task lists based on the maintenance strategy and linking it with maintenance plans and items.
  • Taking responsibility in guiding & mentoring the team in preparing/developing comprehensive Workpacks/task lists from maintenance reports, general task list, equipment specific task lists, spare part list, equipments drawings, circuit diagrams, P&IDs, operation, and maintenance manuals of OEMs etc., for equipment of Upstream, Down Stream & Integrated Gas operating units as per Shell Standards.
  • Guide and mentor, the teams in writing & reviewing the work instruction of various processes/supports.
  • Coach higher order critical thinking, brainstorming and decision-making skills to TAO front line Staff. Assist team leads to embed networking and virtual working skills to the staff.
  • Coach and mentor TAO engineers in Upstream, Down Stream & IG equipment – processes and tools. Processes include Preventive maintenance & Corrective maintennace activities, Work packs/Work Preparation etc.
  • Partner with the business and participate in various forums. Develop a rapport with and work through the Global Process Owners (GPOs) / PTEs to identify improvement projects. Lead improvement projects Continuous Improvement (CI) and Solution Implementation (SI) projects for maintenance execution. Ensure benefits delivery.

Dimensions

The role covers relationship management with technical authorities/subject matter experts in several Upstream, Down Stream and Integrated Gas OUs. The Technical Specialist-Maintenance needs to be able to understand and explain to others how changes/improvements in process controls and technical standards need to be reflected in the system.

Skills & Requirements

  • Degree in Engineering in Electrical/Instrumentation/ Instrumentation & control Engineering / Electrical & Electronics/ Electronics & Instrumentation/E&C discipline.
  • Experience in preparing the maintenance work instructions, task lists, work packs, work preparation and manpower estimation for PM/CM/major maintenance/overhauling of instruments calibration, installation, stroke checking etc. in various equipment available in oil and gas industry.
  • Minimum 8 plus years of hand-on field experience in Field Instrumentation, analyzer Instruments, PLCs, DCS and electrical systems and automation systems in Oil & Gas/ Refinery/Petrochemicals/Equivalent Industry and in one or more of following areas: -
  • Hands-on experience in Installation & commissioning/operations, maintenance/design, engineering & selection of instruments for heavy rotating equipment's like turbines, engines, compressors, centrifugal pumps, etc., & maintenance of instruments in static equipment like columns, safety valves, pressure vessels, heat exchangers, heaters, boilers, and relevant field instrumentations.
  • Experience in materials or resources to be ordered, in advance of the work order being issued, such that the scheduler can immediately bring the work order into the schedule without any intervention, Participated and supported ISO/safety-MS audits, as well as other related external audits, as part of Company Safety Control framework and management system.
  • Experience in diagnosing the cause of the problem in field instruments, analyzer instruments, control system instruments and determines the scope of activity required to return the equipment back into service by packaging the work to the tasks, disciplines, materials and services to an effective completion, utilizes feedback from past work plan implementation to improve future work plans, Carry out root cause analysis on repeated failures and collaborate with operations and technologist to identify process related degradation/failure mechanism.
  • Performed Instrument equipment condition monitoring whenever required & liaise with relevant subject matter experts/specialist/OEM to address any arising issues, problems & concerns.
  • Hands on experience in plant maintenance area as an engineering/end user of Maximo EAM / SAP PM Module/ Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS)/Document Management System etc.,
  • Industrial experience in operations and maintenance/erection & commissioning of instruments with experience in maintenance planning, preparing the maintenance work instructions, task lists, maintenance plans, work, and manpower estimation for major maintenance.
  • Experience in Planning and scheduling Major and Minor Plant Turnarounds/Shutdowns, day to day preventive maintenance. Resource allocation and leveling. Manpower planning and allocation. Understanding the safety requirement and Risk Assessment with hands on experience working in planning & scheduling tools viz. MS Projects/PrimaveraP6
  • Knowledge/Proficiency in SAP PM/MM module is highly desirable.
  • Experience in leading team/process/projects is highly desirable.
  • Knowledge/Proficiency in MS Excel, MS Access etc., is highly desirable.
  • Knowledge/Proficiency in AutoCAD, AutoPlant/SP3D and other design and drafting software will be an added advantage.
  • Effective communication skill and stakeholder management is a necessary skill for the job.
  • Professional engineering certification is an added value.
  • Virtual working experience highly desirable.

Work Cycle:

  • 5 days per week 8 hours a day.
