Senior Specialist, Backend, Digital Solutions Senior Specialist, Software Engineer (Backend) will work within the Human Health Digital Data and Analytics area to contribute to development of our advanced data science application platform. We are realizing the vision of a cohesive commercial decision support suite, helping stakeholders make data-driven decisions to optimize delivery of our product to patients. The candidate will work with the Solutions Engineering team to architect and implement highly available and performant solutions using AWS cloud, Kubernetes, and AWS AI/ML services.
The Senior Specialist, Software Engineer (Backend) role requires excellent programming skills in Python and thorough knowledge of CI/CD, containerization, and implementation of cloud-based architecture.
The preferred candidate will have an entrepreneurial spirit, understanding of healthcare & technology, a demonstrated record of building solutions preferably using AWS cloud platform services. The candidate will have demonstrated leadership skills, an ability to work independently and deal well with ambiguity and strong collaboration skills. The candidate will empower a growth mindset and inspire a culture of continual learning. This role will require interfacing and collaborating with many teams throughout a lot of our markets and so strong communication skills is a must.
Primary Responsibilities - Build and own backend components and libraries for our product suite, build from quick prototypes to extensive web-based applications.
- Work with the DevOps/Cloud team to build and maintain highly available, scalable, and secure infrastructure in AWS using scripting and Infrastructure -as-Code tools.
- Contribute to design and use of APIs to expose backend functionality.
- Reassess our products frequently to enhance and align architectures, knowledge models, user experience, performance, and stability.
- Lead, Develop, and influence software development patterns and standards.
- Provide technical guidance, mentoring to other team members.
- Conduct code reviews, ensure changes enhance maintainability, performance, and security.
- Analyze and improve efficiency and scalability of systems and processes.
- Help develop our analytics product platform, align the architecture of our products to leverage, to improve quality and reuse.
- Collaborate with DevOps team to implement CI/CD release workflow.
- Collaborate on idea generation, definition, and construction with teams across the company.
- Learn about the newest techniques and technologies and share with others to improve our team culture and ways of working.
Education Minimum Requirements A minimum of BS (or equivalent) in Data Science, Computer Science, Management Information Systems, IT, or an equivalent scientific/commercial discipline. Masters/PhD preferred.
Required Experience And Skills - 5+ years' experience building and delivering production quality systems.
- Excellent programming skills with Python, building REST web services, APIs.
- Experience with Flask, Django, FastAPI or similar.
- Experience building software products and solutions with Microservices, API-first, Cloud Native, Headless principles.
- Experience with containers and orchestration, with Docker and Kubernetes
- Experience developing with cloud services, e.g. AWS Lambda, Sagemaker, Glue, or other.
- Experience with data pipelines, relational and NoSQL databases
- Strong understanding of application security
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong teamwork ethic, passion for learning and desire to seek new challenges.
- Experience working in an agile structure and reporting to engineering leads.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate with diverse groups of work colleagues and positively manage ambiguity.
- Self-motivation, proactivity, and ability to work independently with minimum direction.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, along with the ability to communicate appropriately and confidently with colleagues from different backgrounds and seniority levels.
- Excellent organizational skills, with ability to navigate a complex matrix environment and organize/prioritize work efficiently and effectively.
