About ICS OE organization

International Card Services (ICS) Operational Excellence (OE) is responsible for supporting our international issuing and acquiring businesses across 27+ countries and ensuring they have a robust first line of defence.International OE plays an active role in enabling the businesses to meet their growth objectives whilst demonstrating an effective control framework.

Purpose of the Role:

The VP, Head of Operational Risk Management & Internal Controls will report to the Head of ICS Issuing OE and will have a dotted reporting line into the CEO of AEBC ( American Express Banking Corporation).

The focus of this role is to lead a team of Operational Risk and Operational Excellence specialists, supporting both the Issuing and Acquiring Businesses to ensure we deliver on controls and compliance obligations while improving our controls environment and strengthening our operating processes.

The VP, Head of Operational Risk Management & Internal Controls will also lead the team of AEBC Branch Operations supporting both the Affiliate and Third-Party management program execution and a dedicated team of AEBC Non- financial regulatory reporting program management.

This incumbent will need to be an experienced and credible leader, with a strong expertise of Controls Program Management and Complex Process changes (including supporting complex outsourcing initiatives) in an agile environment, along with outstanding leadership and influencing skills.

This role requires strong risk management and controls framework operational skills, as well excellent relationship management abilities to impact and influence at all levels, and extensive collaboration with multiple partners across numerous business units, functional groups and the three lines of defence.

Key Responsibilities include:

• Ensure risks and issues are effectively identified, assessed, prioritised, and handled to deliver on local business, regulatory and company-wide expectations
• Conduct robust risk assessment on new products, new and changing regulation, partners, and other business change, supporting the business on efficient execution, defining, and implementing appropriate controls and monitoring for sustainable risk management
• Ensure robust support for the Audit & Concurrent program management, driving strong business engagement, and prompt accurate responses to validate findings, ensuring any Management Action Plans (MAPs) and Management Self-Identified Findings (MSIFs) have achievable and sustainable action plans
• Ensure relevant local legal entity processes are appropriate for the regulatory framework and deliver against local and company-wide expectations and obligations
• Drive strong business awareness across various functional groups and lines of business to ensure effective engagement, support and collaboration
• Responsible for driving career talent progression through ongoing leadership engagement as well as a proactive and energised colleague engagement program

Minimum Qualifications

• Experienced, credible leader with 20+ years of financial services-related experience, preferably within Operational Risk, Operational Excellence, or Compliance
• Proven experience building & leading diverse, highly engaged, high-performing teams
• Excellent communication & collaboration skills ability to build relationships, influence decisions, and to inspire matrixed, cross-functional teams to deliver on shared objectives
• Adept at seeing the big picture & linking individual decisions to Enterprise impact, with a track record of influencing others to embrace Enterprise thinking
• Confidence in decision-making in complex & ambiguous situations comfortable troubleshooting and aligning conflicting interests
• Shown business leader with strong technical skills, ability to demonstrate success in driving large complex multi-market change efforts in an agile environment, working with senior level stakeholders, and ability to lead and influence without direct authority
• Proven ability to inspire change, leading adoption of new ways of working, and leveraging storytelling to drive understanding & adoption of change
• Proven track record to adopt & lead a team to embrace safe & sound business practices at scale

Academic Background:

CA/MBA or Postgraduate with preferably a master's degree or equivalent
