Overview

This is an opportunity for full stack professionals to join a dynamic engineering team that manages Content Sourcing for high-demand tax content from across the web as it flows from sourcing and extraction to delivery through our AvaTax platform. As a Senior Software engineer on the Content Sourcing Team of Content Engineering Department at Avalara, you will be part of a high performing team focused on automated sourcing of tax content from across the web and present it in an easy to understand form for the tax researchers at Avalara. This position is for someone who strives for developing solutions with niche technologies to achieve high quality of automations to source tax content with lesser manual work and demonstrate efficiency gains to our customers.

Responsibilities

• Work with development teams and product managers to ideate on high performance software solutions.
• Understand the design solution both in its practical intent and creative vision, and convert it into engineered software.
• Build end-to-end applications with UI, backend development to deploying to production environments.
• Develop and manage well-functioning databases, APIs and applications.
• Resolve a wide range of issues in creative ways and demonstrate good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions.
• Understand both presentation and backend layer and creates reusable components and APIs.
• Participate in Agile development activities including sprint planning, stand-ups, retrospectives and demos.
• Test software to ensure performance, responsiveness and efficiency.
• Perform Code Review with peers.
• Document the changes requested for new/enhanced feature development.
• Work closely with remote development, support and QA teams in US time zones.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills to collaborate effectively with partner teams.
• Identify bottlenecks and bugs, and devise solutions to problems.

Qualifications

• Computer science degree or equivalent experience with 4-6 years of software development experience in large scale production environments.
• Hands-on expertise in development of software solutions using framework such as NodeJs, Angular, React, Python, Go lang, Java and Postgresql
• Understanding of design patterns and SOLID principles
• Good understanding of HTML5, CSS3 and JavaScript
• Nice to have skills: AWS, Kubernetes, Docker
• Familiarity with OutSystems is preferred
• Willingness to learn and implement new technology or low code platform
• Deliver clean well thought out code with an emphasis on quality, simplicity, and maintainability.
• Strong emphasis on engineering best practices including Peer Reviews, Code Inspections, and Automation
• The ability to work independently. Research and learn skills independently.
• Good analytical, design and debugging skills at multiple levels of the design process.
