- We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Instrumentation Designer Level II to join our team
- In this role, you will be responsible for designing and drafting instrumentation systems and components for engineering projects
- You will work closely with engineers, project managers, and other stakeholders to ensure accurate and efficient design solutions
Responsibilities:
- Instrumentation design: Develop detailed design drawings, schematics, and layouts for instrumentation systems using computer-aided design (CAD) software
- Interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and standards to create accurate and compliant designs
- Instrumentation component selection: Assist in the selection of appropriate instrumentation components, such as sensors, transmitters, control valves, and analyzers, based on project requirements and industry standards
- Collaborate with procurement teams to ensure timely availability of required components
- Design optimization: Analyze design requirements and provide input on design optimization, cost reduction, and efficiency improvements
- Collaborate with engineers to propose alternative design options and evaluate their impact on project performance and cost
- Compliance and standards: Ensure designs comply with relevant industry standards, codes, and regulations, such as ISA, API, and ASME
- Stay updated on industry best practices and emerging technologies related to instrumentation design
- Documentation and technical support: Prepare design documentation, including equipment specifications, bill of materials (BOM), and technical datasheets
- Provide technical support and clarification to construction and installation teams during project execution
- Coordination with multidisciplinary teams: Collaborate with other engineering disciplines, such as electrical, mechanical, and process engineering, to ensure coordination and integration of instrumentation designs with overall project requirements
- Participate in design review meetings and provide input on interdisciplinary design coordination
- Quality control and review: Conduct quality checks and reviews of design drawings and documents to ensure accuracy, adherence to design standards, and completeness
- Identify and resolve design discrepancies or issues in a timely manner
- Continuous improvement: Contribute to the development and improvement of design standards, processes, and best practices related to instrumentation design
- Provide input on software and tool enhancements to improve design efficiency and accuracy
Requirements:
- Educational background: Associate degree or diploma in Instrumentation Technology, Electrical Engineering Technology, or a related field
- Additional certifications in CAD software or instrumentation design are advantageous
- Relevant work experience: Several years of experience in instrumentation design within engineering or industrial settings
- Experience with CAD software for instrumentation design, such as AutoCAD or MicroStation, is required
- Technical knowledge: Strong understanding of instrumentation systems, components, and design principles
- Familiarity with instrumentation standards and practices, such as P&IDs, loop diagrams, instrument index, and wiring diagrams
- CAD proficiency: Proficient in using CAD software for drafting and design purposes
- Experience with 3D modeling software, such as SmartPlant Instrumentation (SPI) or Aveva Instrumentation, is a plus
- Detail-oriented: Strong attention to detail to ensure accurate and precise design drawings
- Ability to identify and resolve design inconsistencies or issues
- Communication skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders
- Ability to convey technical information in a clear and understandable manner
- Problem-solving abilities: Strong problem-solving skills to analyze design challenges, propose solutions, and make informed decisions
- Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks to meet project deadlines
- Teamwork and collaboration: Proven ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and coordinate with internal and external stakeholders
- Willingness to share knowledge and support the professional development of junior team members
