Job description
- Project Manager roles within Smiths Detection are bounded by specific responsibilities and well suited to individuals that are developing project management experience
- The PM typically assists the project and senior project managers with aspects of project delivery and is likely to be responsible for the coordination of recurring activities as part of the monthly project cycle

Duties Responsibilities
What you'll do:
- Assist with the initiating, planning, monitoring controlling, communicating and close-out phases of projects, contributing to the completion of Product Lifecycle Process Gates where applicable. Operate in accordance with relevant Smith Detection Programme Excellence Centre (PEC) processes.
- Acting under direction coordinate specific activities of integrated project and/or cross-functional teams to contribute to the successful completion of milestones.
- Operate in accordance with the standardised business rhythm that coordinates the activities of project management, finance and project controls teams. Support with the maintenance of project records.
- Assist with the production/maintenance of project artefacts (e.g. Work breakdown Structure, Cost Breakdown Structure, Responsibility Assignment Matrix, Responsible Accountable Consulted Informed (RACI) Matrix, time scheduling, resource planning, risk and change management controls, etc).
- Assist with the establishment and maintenance of cost and schedule baselines.
- Contribute to monthly variance analysis for explaining and interpreting impact against the baseline. Support with the completion and tracking of corrective/preventative actions.
- Actively collaborate with members of the project management function and wider global Smiths Detection business.
- Typical duties specific to Commercial orientated projects include:
- Support the generation of Customer tenders working in accordance with the Bid and Pursue Programme Lifecycle Process.
- Assist with the completion of project Kick-off and Sales to Project Management Handover.
- Support with finance management covering revenue recognition and reporting.
- Contribute to successful handover to service.
- Typical duties specific to Technology orientated projects include:
- Assist with feasibility or science and technology studies in accordance with the PEC Technology Development Management Process.
- Support the planning and execution of product development, enhancement or sustaining projects defined by an approved business case prepared by Product Management.
- Assist with the completion of specified actions associated with the resolution of field service issues or product complaints.
- Support supplier collaboration and the achievement of defined objectives.
- Awareness of the different role profiles and competencies that are present within teams.
- Support with the creation of inclusive and coordinated project environments to achieve project success.
- Actively promote the need to deliver projects to scope and recognise how this satisfies our customer commitments, provides innovative products to the marketplace and maximises shareholder return.
- Ensure individual compliance with company policies for Ethics, Health, Safety and Environment.
- Recognise the need for business change initiatives, such as the standardisation and integration of Programme Lifecycle Management, Product Lifecycle Process and Technology Development Management Process into a PEC process framework for application across the global business.
- Follows a proactive approach to developing an understanding of company policies and procedures and in the first instance uses resources such as training material, procedure documents and process guidelines as a go-to source
The Individual
What you'll definitely need:
- Must possess at least a bachelor s degree in electrical/ Electronic or Computer Engineering/Science or equivalent. Master's degree is preferred.
- Strong 6+ years in Embeeded Software system and in project management experience
- Internationally recognised professional qualification in project management (equivalent to IPMA level D/E) desirable.
- Qualification such as HNC in relevant discipline (Business/Project Management or Technology/Engineering) desirable.
- Knowledge of Agile methodologies is essential.
- Excellent communication, problem solving and presentation skills.
- Developing knowledge of project management methodologies (e.g. Waterfall, PRINCE2, Agile etc) gleaned from a mixture of experience, exposure and training.
- Awareness of planning methodologies/techniques and other aspects of project controls such as earned value management.
- Awareness of complex integrated technology-based sensor systems and the critical roles that the technology and products play in the market desirable.
- Developing awareness of the main priorities of typical cross-functions and how they operate and support the delivery of major technology projects (such as RD, Legal, Finance, Supply Chain, Service etc).
- Experience of project management environment, with direct experience of engineering/technology or construction/infrastructure environments desirable.
- Recognition of the importance of baseline planning and scheduling, forecasting and estimating, cost/schedule integration techniques.
- Exposure to risk management tracking and the completion of corrective action plans.
- Initial exposure to the use of estimating, scheduling, risk and change software tools such as: SAP, Primavera, Oracle ERP, MS Project, Pertmaster, Active Risk Manager, Cobra, Power BI.
- Developing initial leadership and interpersonal skills. A natural passion to deliver against commitments.
- Ability to communicate with peers.
- Good attention to detail, highly organised and ability to work with general instructions on routine work and detailed instructions on new assignments.
- Ability to influence and align activities project governance, particularly those related to project management
