About the Job
This is a key role within the Second Line of Defense, Operational Risk, Risk and Control Self-Assessment (RCSA) Team. The person in this role will be located out of the SVB office in Bangalore and functionally report into the RCSA Governance, Communication and Quality Assurance (QA) leader in US. The person should have strong risk management expertise, exceptional written and oral communication skills, strong understanding of banking business processes, stakeholder management skills and the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines at once. Given the responsibility and high pace of the role, the ideal candidate should have the experience and skills needed to contribute to the continuous maturation of the department.
This will require broad knowledge of consumer and commercial banking products and services, as well as applicable laws and regulations. The right candidate will need to be highly influential, especially in an ambiguous and changing environment. The right candidate for this role will provide innovation in the development and execution of the Bank’s RCSA methodology.
The role requires performing quality assurance of the effective challenge conducted by the RCSA 2nd Line Effective Challenge Team, review various aspects of the effective challenge in conformance with the bank’s effective challenge and RCSA Standard and various other procedures applicable to RCSA, Effective Challenge. The role may also involve evaluating best practices, efficiency opportunities, and compliance with the requirements. The role will have the overall responsibility for timely execution and delivery of the QAs planned and assigned along with maintaining quality of Output. The role will also play an important role in working with various Second Line Effective Challenge partners to deliver RCSA QA outputs.
Key Responsibilities includes the following areas:
- Lead and execute QA activities, including but not limited to:
- Perform RCSA QA based on the defined procedure and provide comments/feedbacks to Second Line RCSA Effective Challenge team and Management as applicable.
- Facilitate preparation of QA Forecast exercise for the RCSA QA Program for a defined period.
- Identify RCSAs that needs to be part of the QA scope based on various considerations.
- As part of the QA process, ensure all necessary risks are identified, properly documented, adequate and appropriate rationales and ratings are provided for inherent risks, likelihood, impact, and control environment etc.
- Ensure that effective challenge team has appropriately challenged the Business Unit to make necessary changes to the RCSA and how those challenges are taken to a close.
- Provide leadership in the quality execution of RCSA QA activities and its outputs, including evaluating risks and controls, identifying lessons learned and feedback loops within the RCSA QA team to ensure success criteria are met.
- Ensure timely execution and completion of QA.
- Train new team members and process owners in their ability to develop RCSAs for their functional areas.
- Collaborate with other Second Line of Defense partners to inform and enhance Control Identification and RCSA conclusions which align broadly with the Enterprise Risk Management framework.
- Influences and develops innovative solutions to mitigate risk and prevent risk exposures which result in significant business impacts.
- Support regulatory requests from time to time ensuring they are addressed in a timely manner and to the best of quality.
- Perform other duties assigned by the management, as the role evolves in the future.
- Coordinate with teams across Second Line of Defense RCSA Team to drive and maintain a strong and consistent control environment, including:
- Possess a strong capability to accurately identify and evaluate risks and controls in a highly regulated business environment.
- Educates risk owners on risk / control best practices and may work with other lines of defense in the identification, development, and implementation of controls.
- Collaborate with key stakeholders to recommend the successful establishment of risks and controls to mitigate identified risks and / or close audit or regulatory findings.
- Evolve the Second Line of Defense RCSA QA approach over time.
Key Skills:
- Experience in banking or large financial institutions with focus on risk and control
- RCSA exposure including evaluation of banking processes and risk assessment units with an objective of identifying key risks and controls.
- Second Line of Defense experience in risk management within a large financial institution would be an added advantage.
- Influence ability to drive change in a dynamic environment through relationship building, salesmanship, and a strong ability to read the room.
- Demonstrated ability to quickly build trust and relationships, bridge communication gaps, resolve conflicts, and influence stakeholders at all levels (including executives)
- Demonstrated ability to take industry trends, innovative behaviors, data analytics, and automation to drive a proactive and anticipatory approach to all risk management.
- Ability to multitask with simultaneous projects and tasks, while demonstrating urgency, prioritization, and ownership to drive issues to completion.
- Active listening, persuasiveness, and presentation skills to communicate new products or changes and gain buy-in, consensus, and cooperation in the face of conflicting viewpoints, resistance to change, constraints, etc.
- Strong business acumen in financial services or related industry, and a proven ability to balance strategic thinking with practical implementation skills.
- Excellent project management skills and the ability to motivate teams and drive performance.
- High energy and proven track record of accomplishments and results
- Strong expertise with MS Office including Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Visio.
- Experience in Enterprise Risk Management application (Governance, Risk and Compliance- GRC)
- Strong interpersonal skills, with evidence of working in collaboration across large, complex organizations, including effective influencing skills, a proactive and 'no surprises' approach in communicating issues/requests.
- Broad knowledge of applicable laws, rules, regulations, supervisory guidance, and expectations for large financial institutions (LFIs)
Required Education and Experience
- Bachelor's Degree in accounting or finance/Risk operations/Technology/Engineering.
- 12 to 15 years of relevant experience related RCSA, risk identification, and control identification / evaluation experience, preferably at a large financial institution.
- Project management and organization skills, with the capability to work on multiple assignments simultaneously with minimal direction in a dynamic and fluid environment.
- Pro-active, high energy and strong interpersonal skills with a team-focused attitude, demonstrating the ability to collaborate and compromise while building constructive and effective relationships.
- Demonstrated critical thinking and analytical abilities, including problem solving and time management skills.
- Professional Certifications in Risk or other related discipline such as CERP, CPA or CIA or CA or CISA will be preferred.
