How You Will Contribute:
As a principal engineer Embedded Software contributes to support embedded platform firmware across G-PON, ONT, BIOS/UEFI bootstrap firmware, and secure ONIE multi-stage bootstrap including Linux BSP (Board Support Package) and Linux device drivers for platform hardware development programs. The role is responsible overall system-level board management and bootstrap to Linux boot in collaboration with functions such as Hardware Design, Logic Design, Power and Thermal Design, Project Management, Component Engineering, Document Control, SCO (Supply Chain Operations), CM (Contract Manufacturing), and product release support in order to deliver a Linux platform to host OS and application OS software and QA teams. The role is part of an R&D organization that designs, releases and sustains Packet Switching and Router products and associated optics and accessories for deployment in large telco carriers, MSOs, and enterprise managed service providers. Products range from desktop, to pizzabox, to outdoor ruggedized units. For x86-based systems, BMC firmware supports power control/monitoring, thermal control/monitoring, clock control/monitoring, reset control, BIOS/UEFI programming/upgrade, as well as, IPMI for remote administration, monitoring, and recovery of the system. For x86-based systems, BIOS/UEFI firmware supports the basic I/O of the system to load the first-stage Linux-based ONIE loader in order to load the target host kernel OS of the system. For ARM or MIPS-based systems, integrated firmware provides the equivalent BMC, BIOS, and bootstrap capabilities. Embedded firmware and bootstrap software shall support root-of-trust secure booting, including vendor and customer certificate management.
- Provide the technical guidance to team to achieve the team goal.
- Coordinate and collaborate with other teams within the hardware design organization and outside teams, such as software design, PLM (Product Line Management), PLA (Product Line Architects), and Supply Chain Operations (SCO)
- Participate in formal and informal cross functional meetings to stay in sync with other teams' activity and needs, report status of platform software design activity, schedules, risks and dependencies
- Track design activities and ensure product release tasks are being performed on time to meet committed product release schedule and/or flag risks and issues to management to trigger a recovery plan
- Support platform software sustaining for requalification/recertification as required for component EOL, supply chain component shortages and alternate sources, regulatory changes, production yield issues as required to support on-going production of systems, and security patching of firmware and bootstrap software for vulnerabilities
- Lead, guide, mentor, train and develop team members
- Participate in, or lead, process improvement initiatives as assigned

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor or Master degree in Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering with 12+ years of Related experience
- Experience in leading and managing a team of individuals, preferably in telecom and MSO networking or similar hardware design environments
