Role Objective Responsible for analysing design requirements (existing products amp; new products), preparing conceptual, preliminary and detailed designs for mechanical systems/subsystems; prototyping the design for validation and verification; design handoff to manufacturing; participate in quality improvements of products and design processes
Key Responsibilities And Accountabilities - Co-ordinate with multi-disciplinary program team to understand the constraints in the design space with respect to aerodynamics/mechanical loads, electronics integration, size, weight, and power.
- Use CAD software to develop detailed models and specifications for UAV components and systems
- Research designs and prepare concepts of product design within the constraints to meet the set requirements
- Analyse the concepts with pros and cons of each along with preliminary feasibility check and trade studies
- Review the concepts within program team in a conceptual design review (CDR) to finalize one or two concepts for preliminary design
- Prepare preliminary product design of chosen concept to finalize product configuration, assembly, component placements etc. to meet requirements
- Coordinate with manufacturing engineer to decide the materials to be used for construction of the product
- Perform basic risk analysis of design and mitigate design risk as much as possible through physical/simulated tests and analysis, procurement and testing of off-the-shelf components planned to use in the design
- Review the design within program team in a preliminary design review (PDR) to receive go ahead for detailed design
- Prototyping and hand over to the manufacturing/production team
- Conceptualize product quality enhancements through active ideation with team that meets / exceeds client expectations.
Qualifications - Bachelor's or master's degree in mechanical engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related fields.
- 3+ years' experience in Mechanical design. Knowledge of Aerospace/Unmanned System design will be preferred
Skills And Abilities - Knowledge of Unmanned systems
- Good knowledge of Mechanical product design and product lifecycle
- Basic knowledge of flight dynamics, aerodynamics, structural mechanics, load analysis
- Knowledge of materials and structures
- Working knowledge of manufacturing processes (conventional and non-traditional processes)
- Hands-on prototyping experience using various prototyping processes/materials
- Ability to comprehend engineering drawings
- Excellent understanding and experience in CAD software, preferably Fusion360 or CATIA V5
