Scope of the Job – What You Will Be Responsible For

  • Start up / transform a Large Solution Train integrating the delivery of several Agile Release Trains and / or Programs
  • Lead significant parts of the Portfolio and Solution Train levels transformation and continuous improvement

Typical Responsibilities – What You Will Do

  • Facilitation across all levels of the organization and across all functions/roles
  • Successfully apply the standards set for our Solution Trains, identifying proactively change opportunities in the systems and standards
  • Help the Solution Train team navigate the complexity of large solution delivery and Portfolio coordination
  • Collaborate with the Portfolio Leadership Teams to enable Portfolio and Solution Train success
  • Lead the Program Leadership Teams within their Solution Train in effective large solution delivery and collaboration
  • Coach Release Train Engineers within their Solution Train on effective facilitation
  • Coach Solution Managers and Architects on effective Work Intake management techniques
  • Lead the Solution Train LT and the Portfolio LT in adapting the program structure to improve large solution delivery
  • Articulate and make visible the Solution Train impediments and the improvements needed to overcome them
  • Articulate and make visible the risks to the Solution Train's plans and lead the team formulating an adequate response to them
  • Support and mentor less experienced practitioners

Expected Outcomes – What You Will Be Expected To Achieve

  • Aligned and focused Solution Train (team of teams of teams)
  • End-to-end Solution integration at all levels: vision, objectives, planning, development, testing, delivery, deployment and operations.
  • Continuous improvement driven by OKRs
  • Design the system and iterate to make it work, as opposed to implement a ready-made solution
  • Improved practices across the entire portfolio for some parts of the transformation
  • New Solution Trains can deliver consistently after a few PIs
  • Stable Solution Trains show acceleration (solution time to market) after a few PIs and can sustain it for many PIs

Expected Skills – What You Can Do

  • Operational knowledge of Large Solution Trains (up to 7 Agile Programs / ARTs) and specific methods (SAFe, LeSS, DAD, Nexus…) and practices
  • Master Solution Train operations
  • Able to articulate and pursue the transformation vision for the Solution Train, based on its needs, challenges and opportunities within its Portfolio context
  • Master Solution Train design, Programs breakdown, integration with other Solution Trains and the Portfolio, and the Solution Train start-up process
  • Master Value Stream Mapping and Management, improving the Solution Train and Programs value delivery
  • Master large scale continuous improvement skills
  • Master large scale facilitator
  • Able to coach executive stakeholders and other coaches (RTEs and Scrum Masters)
  • Master level Release Train and Agile Team facilitation skills

Typical Demonstrable Experience – What You Have Done Already

  • 7+ years Agile transformation and facilitation experience, working at both Agile Team and Program / Agile Release Train levels (Solution Train experience is a plus)
  • Played Scrum Master / Team Coach roles transforming several Kanban and / or Agile Teams at all stages from inception to maturity, achieving sustainable delivery and speed
  • Led multiple Agile Release Trains (multiple Solution Trains is a plus)
  • Initiated a new Program / Agile Release Train leading it to sustainable delivery as Release Train Engineer / Agile Program Manager (initiating a new Solution Train is a plus)
  • Accelerated delivery of an established Program / Agile Release Train, taking it to higher levels of maturity and speed
  • Facilitated and led programs and teams using Kanban
  • Coached senior leaders and stakeholders
  • successfully facilitated large scale workshops and change processes
  • Led cross-program (organizational) change initiatives
  • Successfully coached other facilitators and change agents (Scrum Masters, Coaches, Program Managers, Release Train Engineers…)
