Job description
About the Role: As the Head of Platform Engineering, You’ll be a strategic leader and visionary architect responsible for building and scaling our core platform infrastructure. You’ll lead a talented team of engineers across multiple disciplines, including Backend Platform Engineering, Site Reliability Engineering, Data Engineering, to ensure the seamless delivery and high availability of our audio streaming platform. This is a pivotal role for Pocket FM, shaping the foundation upon which our future growth and innovation will be built on.
Responsibilities: ● Define and lead the vision, roadmap, and architecture for the Platform Engineering team, ● encompassing core services like authentication, authorization (AuthNZ), payment processing and data infrastructure. ● Build and manage highly scalable, performant, and secure platform infrastructure,ensuring seamless delivery and high availability of our audio streaming platform. ● Implement and optimize SRE practices for continuous monitoring, automation, and incident response across all platform services. ● Champion the migration of monolithic services to microservices architectures, ensuring efficient development, deployment, and scalability. This involves breaking down large applications into smaller, independent services that communicate with each other through APIs. ● Lead the transition from relational databases (RDS) to NoSQL databases to handle high data volume and diverse data models effectively. ● NoSQL databases are more flexible and scalable than traditional relational databases, making them ideal for storing and managing large amounts of unstructured or semi-structured data. ● Own and operate data pipelines and solutions to drive platform insights, performance optimization, and user experience enhancements. ● Foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and excellence within the Platform Engineering team. ● Attract, recruit, and retain top talent in the field of platform engineering. ● Partner with other engineering teams to deliver a seamless user experience and enable product innovations. Qualifications : ● 12+ years of experience in leading and managing large-scale platform engineering teams. ● Lead by example and actively participate in building and scaling your vision for the platform. This isn’t just about planning; it’s about getting hands-on with the code, infrastructure, and data pipelines yourself. ● Proven track record of successfully building and scaling complex, distributed systems. ● Deep understanding of SRE principles and practices, including automation, monitoring, and incident response. ● Strong expertise in high scale architecture solutions. ● Experience with microservices architectures and containerization technologies like Docker and Kubernetes is a plus.Job tags
