We are looking for an enthusiastic Acquisitions Editor to join the Apress team.

You will be responsible for the acquisition and management of a list of books and some videos and multimedia products, in the areas of Web Development and Open Source technologies.

The position involves working closely with authors as well as with internal stakeholders. The Acquisitions Editor identifies possible authors who are qualified to write about key topics in their field, and pro-actively reaches out to both prospective authors and existing authors. Once a book proposal has been received, the role involves undertaking proposal review, contract negotiation, as well as the oversight of your books through the editorial process all the way to publication, working closely with our editorial project management and production teams.

As an Acquisitions Editor, you will be tasked with building and maintaining strong relationships within the tech industry relevant to your list, whether that’s authors, content creators or reviewers. Titles acquired should be of a consistently high quality in line with Apress’ reputation as a well-respected publisher of technology and business content.

Specific Responsibilities include:

- To acquire approximately 25 titles per year in line with your program lead and manager.
- Pursue an active and internationally focused acquisitions policy, requiring strong initiative and independent functioning.
- Being creative in using all available methods for book acquisition, including creative use of tools and systems at your disposal such as social media and AI-driven tools.
- Prepare, negotiate and execute publishing contracts.
- Work with authors to ensure timely delivery of book manuscripts and video files.
- Develop a network of industry advisors and technical reviewers who can be called upon for advice concerning your program as well as review manuscripts when required.
- Maintain communication and strong working relationships with editorial counterparts in all Apress locations.
- Travel to relevant conferences and industry events on behalf of Apress, when required, to aid acquisitions and networking opportunities as well as keep abreast of industry trends and developments.
- Maintain continuous cooperation and dialogue with wider Springer Nature colleagues in our rights, sales and production departments concerning individual projects and company-wide initiatives.
- Review and discuss new projects and plans with editorial colleagues, particularly in overlapping areas.

Skills, Experience and Qualifications:

- A bachelor’s degree preferably in Computer Science, Publishing or a related field.
- Excellent command of both written and spoken English is essential.
- A natural interest in the tech industry, and in keeping abreast of current developments within this fast-moving industry.
- At least two to five years of relevant publishing experience, preferably in an acquisition capacity. Candidates with a background in a related field, like journalism, communications, marketing, or a related tech field will be considered.
- Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills required.
- Flexible/hybrid working with 3 days in office and two days at home.

This role will be located in our Pune office based on a hybrid working pattern and on a full-time basis.
