The Solutions, Platforms, Technologies and NPI group within Solar Turbines (Gas Turbine Package Engineering) is on the front line of developing new, innovative products that are crucial to the success of customers in a wide range of Industries. We are looking for a motivated, creative, out-of-the-box thinking, Design Engineer to work in a fast-paced engineering environment using the agile development process to see Solar experience profitable growth and make our customers successful.

What You Will Do

The Package Development & Integration team provides pre-engineered designs for turbo-machinery package products for both the Power Generation and Oil and Gas markets. This position will play a key leadership role in maintaining and enhancing the O&G Generator/Compressor set package products by developing new or improved processes, products or components that will lead to ease of assembly or reduction in manufacturing costs, enhanced performance, durability, serviceability, and life cycle cost. This position requires a self-directed leader who can utilise lean tools and methodology to achieve results that directly benefit the Company's objectives in terms of Products, Quality, Velocity and Cost.

Administrative: Will act as a primary representative for assigned programs to various Internal Partners like Mechanical, Electrical, PLC, HMI, Simulation and Manufacturing Engineering, Product groups and Suppliers when required. Demonstrated leadership, interpersonal, communication, presentation, and teaming skills are essential.

Workgroup Performance and Development: Ensure Mechanical, Hydro, Electrical, Layout, PLC & HMI, Simulation & Manufacturing Engineering team members understand their work processes, deliverables, and priorities and consistently meet or exceed performance goals. Apply 6-Sigma Lean concepts to document and improve processes. Lead the team to improve output quality, response time, and efficiency. Develop and communicate expectations to the organisation.

Strategy Setting: The incumbent will use 6-Sigma and Lean Product Development methodologies and tools to develop innovative and cost-effective package designs, which can be implemented across all product lines. Strategic product vision will be a part of all development, process and product improvement programs.

Research & Engineering: The successful candidate will create and be responsible for their R&E budgets, program scope and schedule that co-ordinate or drive the plans of others. This individual is responsible for the soundness of technical proposals and completion within schedule.

Desired Experience

The successful candidate will have a minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related technical field. Working knowledge of turbo-machinery control systems, hydromechanical systems, package mechanical design, and customer balance of plant design requirements is highly desirable. A good understanding of the basic theory of application, design, and operation concepts of power generation, gas compression and gas processes. Familiarity with both Solar's Oil and Gas and Power Generation markets, business processes, customer base and application of equipment is also desired. The ability to contribute in a dynamic team environment, along with strong leadership, communication and organizational skills is required. Previous experience as a successful 6 Sigma Black Belt or with Lean Product Development is desired.
