About Us

DELFI Diagnostics, Inc. (DELFI Diagnostics) is developing next-generation, blood-based tests that are reliable, accessible and deliver a new way to help detect cancer. Employing advanced machine-learning methods to whole-genome sequencing data, the DELFI ("DNA EvaLuation of Fragments for early Interception") platform is built to address the highest-burden health challenges. DELFI Diagnostics prioritizes solutions that have the potential to save lives on a global scale, including for historically underserved populations. DELFI Diagnostics’ platform relies on fragmentomics – the discovery that cancer cells are more chaotic than normal cells and, when they die, leave behind tell-tale patterns and characteristics of cell-free DNA (cfDNA) fragments. FirstLook Lung, for individuals eligible for lung cancer screening, is DELFI Diagnostics’ first laboratory-developed screening test and can be part of routine blood work. FirstLook Lung uses millions of data points to reliably identify individuals who may have cancer detected through low-dose CT, including early stage disease with a negative predictive value of 99.7 percent. This test has not been cleared or approved by the FDA.

The Senior Legal Counsel reports to the Vice President, Legal and will be instrumental in supporting DELFIDiagnostics’ mission to revolutionize early cancer detection. The primary responsibilities of the SeniorLegal Counsel role will be to provide legal support in drafting and negotiating a wide variety of contracts,managing the contracting process workflow, supporting business development and licensing, andassisting with compliance matters and other related legal matters. This role will work cross-functionally todeliver clear guidance and strategic solutions to complex legal issues while mitigating risk. This rolerequires the ability to work independently and present analysis to executive leaders and key businessstakeholders, as well as external partners.

What You'll Do

• Draft, review, negotiate and manage all company agreements, including commercial, supply/procurement, clinical trial, pharma, research and licensing agreements
• Support continuous improvements of legal department operations through creative problem solving, strategic planning, education/training of internal functional groups, project management, and budget management
• Assist with development of policies and procedures relating to legal department activities
• Provide support on general corporate matters, including with respect to corporate organization, governance, financings, reporting, and transaction support
• Lead periodic review/revision of agreement templates, policies and processes to help streamline and simplify deals and key product/services terms
• Effective facilitation of business objectives through timely and practical legal advice to all departments, leading to risk mitigation and fulfillment of legal obligations
• Maintaining up-to-date knowledge of new laws, regulations, and industry trends and providing proactive advice on how they may affect the company
• Evaluation of legal, financial and business risks associated with contracts in order to protect company interests
• Work cross functionally across the company to develop strong, trusted advisor relationships and advance key business objectives
• Assist on compliance matters as needed – including privacy laws, healthcare fraud and abuse laws
• Interact with external counsel, external vendors and business partners

What you’ll have accomplished 12 months from now

• Successful management of business and legal risks across multiple functional areas including employment, commercial, regulatory and corporate
• Be a trusted advisor and business partner across the company by providing strategic and actionable counsel that helps further the company’s business goals
• Development of new, and continuous improvement of all, agreement templates to help secure key partnerships and reduce contracting turnaround time
• Development and implementation of workflows governing contract intake, review and approval processes
• Collaborate strategically with the Vice President of Legal to develop a multiyear roadmap for the growth of the Legal department that complements the evolution of DELFI Diagnostics from a startup to a thriving growth phase life sciences company

What you’ll bring to DELFI

• JD from a nationally accredited law school
• 5+ years of relevant legal experience at a major law firm and/or in-house legal department in the pharma, diagnostic, biotech, or life sciences space
• Significant experience drafting, negotiating, and managing a variety of domestic (U.S.) and international agreements, including but not limited to commercial, supply, services, material transfer, clinical trial, collaboration, and licensing agreements
• Familiarity with diagnostic and pharmaceutical transaction matters

$215,000 - $300,000 a year

Actual compensation packages are based on a wide array of factors unique to each candidate, including but not limited to skillset, years & depth of experience, certifications & relevant education, geography.\n
