Job description
The Lead SCADA Engineer works as part of the global product engineering team within the Solar & Storage Solutions business. The SCADA engineer is responsible for design and configuration of the plant monitoring and control interfaces of GE's FLEXRESERVOIR, FLEXINVERTER, and FLEXIQ products. This includes but is not limited to design of operator interfaces, alarm management systems, and network architecture including wide area networks (WAN), local area networks (LAN), problem solving, customer interfacing and VPN communications.
Essential Responsibilities
- Lead the design, implementation and validation SCADA solutions in solar and BESS applications.
- Serve as the Subject Matter Expert for OS and networking, assist with installation of servers through various projects/sites, and collaborate on tasks within the Controls team.
- Requires working knowledge of Server hardware, software and Operating Systems, platform configuration, Virtual and Cloud technologies, networking/distributed computing environments, and systems management tools. Gathers requirements, designs, and deploys solutions to meet business needs.
- Assist Project & Service Teams for Server integrations on site.
- Must be familiar with LAN/WAN topology and software including routers, switches, firewalls.
- Maintains existing Server environments.
- Manage procurement of licenses, installation, tracking, and other details.
- Support problem identification and resolution of new and previously installed products.
- Employ problem solving methodologies to clearly define and communicate issue status.
- Time estimation and task management to drive on-time delivery of commitments.
- Involvement in all phases of software & controls development from product definition to production release.
- Drive performance and reliability enhancements back to the product.
- Possess excellent communication skills and the ability to interface with both senior leadership and junior team members with confidence and clarity.
- Develop, improve, and administrate customer overview and operational training material for the inverter control system.
- Work across engineering and service organization to prepare documentation for installation, commissioning and operations for use by internal GE employees and our customers.
Qualifications/Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Control Systems or Electrical Engineering
- 8+ years of experience developing SCADA and network solutions
- Applicable technical certifications preferred.
- Server Admin experience and Directory Service Technologies (Windows, Linux, and embedded systems).
- Experience monitoring enterprise systems and installing security applications.
- Prior experience with VMware, PowerShell, Shell Scripting, VBscript and Python.
- Understanding of databases and T-SQL is a plus.
- Proficiency in communicating technical concepts both verbally and in written documentation.
- Relevant Industry Experience with large scale power converters, solar or energy storage systems
- Experience with Cimplicity
- Fluent in English language
