DESCRIPTION

Amazon is seeking an Executive Editor for the APAC region to oversee editorial content strategy for the About Amazon sites in the region (India, Japan, Australia). This is a part of the Owned Content & Channels team, which aims to be the first and most trusted source of information and news about Amazon for external audiences.

This person will lead the APAC editorial strategy for About Amazon’s APAC sites, which entails covering both news and evergreen stories about the company. The role will work closely with the various communications and other teams across the organization to frame and optimize these Amazon news stories.

The ideal candidate is an experienced journalist or storyteller, with strong news judgment, excellent writing skills and with experience leading newsroom(s). This person will be responsible for assigning, generating, and editing original stories about Amazon across a wide range of topics, from new product launches to Prime Video to stories about our workplace. They will use a mix of audience data and innate story judgment to help create stories that Amazon’s audiences care about. The ideal candidate has experience in data-driven digital journalism and a strong understanding of how to use SEO to guide content strategy. They should at the same time embrace innovative storytelling and experiment with new types of content. This person will work with our in-house editorial and comms teams and a network of freelance writers.

The ideal candidate should be an excellent communicator who feels comfortable collaborating with and guiding writers across a large organization, including for non-English content. They also must recognise that a successful content strategy is backed with strong distribution, and therefore will closely collaborate with other teams, like social, to ensure strong organic content amplification. The successful candidate will have leadership experience, a proven track record of developing and delivering compelling stories and campaigns with measurable results, and a strong understanding of the current digital content landscape. They should be a strategic global thinker, goal oriented, and enjoy working in a fast-paced start-up culture.

This role could be based in Mumbai, Bangalore or Tokyo. This person will report in to the International Director of Amazon’s Owned Content & Channels team.

Key job responsibilities
Core job responsibilities include:
• Strategy: Develop & implement the owned content editorial strategy - driven by data & SEO - for APAC in line with the global direction but with regional adaptation as needed. A strong understanding of SEO and data are critical.
• Content: Oversee editorial content and campaigns tied to key storytelling and news moments for About Amazon in APAC sites, and collaborate with PR teams and other channel owners.
• Partnership: Act as a content thought partner to PR teams, providing counsel and guidance through all stages of editorial planning, execution and analysis.
•Measurement & Evaluation: Set content goals and implement cohesive measurement to understand program success. A strong understanding of data (including organic traffic, SEO, recirculation rates, and more) is required. Make real-time program adjustments based on results.
•Experimenting & Scaling: Experiment with story types and topics, develop best practices, create playbooks and toolkits to make our global work more consistent and efficient.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

- 12+ years of communications or journalism experience, managing a publication or division of writers
- 8+ years of digital content or journalism experience
- Bachelor’s degree
- A strong understanding of data and SEO and how to use that to drive content
