Primary Objective

Provides guidance and recommendations on Wind turbine generator (WTG) system and ensures that the turbine supplier delivers a WTG that satisfies the Off shore Wind energy project technical and statutory requirements

Advise on design integrity issues relating Wind turbine system in Offshore wind energy projects

Ensure all work is carried out in accordance with applicable codes and standards within the boundaries of the asset basis of design

Mentor and provide guidance to Team members on Offshore Wind Energy projects

Specific Accountabilities

  • Generate a Design basis for Wind turbine system for Offshore Wind Energy projects.
  • Contribute and participate in key meetings, technical discussions with Client and WTG supplier in any technical discussions
  • Thorough knowledge of applicable codes and standards related to Wind turbine energy systems in Offshore Industry
  • Advise Wind turbine system project team and the Project Manager on the impact of technical risks and propose mitigation strategies Ensuring Worley maintains Design Verification capability
  • Develop or assist in a quality assurance system including procedures and technical requirements for turbine acceptance (e.g. Mechanical checklists)
  • Monitor WTG design modifications proposals, and prepare reports assessing its suitability for the project;
  • Perform as required wind turbine site suitability analysis and evaluate site suitability assessment.
  • Vendor technical bid analyses
  • Remain current on new wind turbine technology, learn about latest technical details on new products and updates/revisions to existing products
  • Review and Acceptance of vendor drawings of WTG system
  • Co-ordinate engineering design duties associated with the development of the next phase of MFP's, being designed by Worley.
  • Coordinate review and challenge Discipline engineering procedures and instructions across all assets.
  • Develop and promote initiatives to improve cost effectiveness of Discipline engineering work across assets
  • Professional technical support to projects (ranging from feasibility studies through to large EPC contracts)
  • Setting and taking ownership of realistic targets for deliverables
  • Managing third party inputs
  • Maintaining effective relationships with:
  • Engineering Manager
  • Clients and potential clients
  • Worley Principal Engineers
  • Project Managers
  • Professional and regulatory bodies
  • Coordinate an effective competency-based assessment and development programme for Discipline engineers.
  • Ensure an effective recruitment and selection system is maintained for recruitment of Discipline engineers across assets, based on the competencies required.
  • Ensure that expert technical advice is available to Worley projects via a coordination role with Lead Discipline Engineers.
  • Quality Assurance – Responsible for working within the provisions and guidelines of the Quality Assurance system relevant to the Off Oil & Gas Business Unit
  • Safety – Responsible for personal safety safe working practices for the Oil & Gas Business Unit. Understand and follow OH&S procedures.

Essential Skills/Experience

Education – Qualifications, Accreditation, Training

  • Engineering Degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • Deep understanding of Wind Turbine Generator components, configurations, controls, safety, operation aspects; and ability to work with diverse teams in both office and field operation environments;
  • +15 Years Mechanical design experience in the Oil & Gas environment.
  • Experience with the development of layouts for new Off shore wind projects and facilities
  • Good understanding on Hands-on experience in coordinating with Structural, Electrical and Control Engineers and designers on project deliverables
  • Has had overseas/project assignment and construction experience
